I'm about due for a rear tire change, so might give that combination of garbage bag, tire warming, and zip ties a try to see if it will get the tire on without spoons. I think the spoons will still be necessary for tire removal, so it might not eliminate any tools, just make it easier to mount and less prone to pinching the tube. I have access to a proper tire changer right now, so if I don't try the garbage bag trick it's because the ease of that tool was too tempting 😅

If you are struggling or gritting your teeth or sweating then take aa break. I've changes dozens of tires, most with mousses and it is technique, not muscle.
Absolutely. Part way through mounting a tire my hands are usually sweaty so I do exactly that. Step away, take a breather, come back refreshed and it goes smoother.

The tire machine was too tempting. One of my hands is still recovering from a surgery and my brother who regularly operates the machine offered to do the work for me. Can't beat that service! Probably have a couple hundred miles left on the old tire, but I took the opportunity to avoid having to change it part way into my next road trip which starts in a week.
