You don't see many of those. I have a soft spot for the Jimny. It was the unloved vehicle that I loved. There's a scene in Lord of the Rings, where in the Pass of Caradhras Legolas walks on the snow while all others have to push through it with difficulty. That to me is the spirit of the Jimny, a vehicle where the lightweight characteristics enable it to do something that others cannot, forcing you to think differently.

Such a pity you can't get it in the USA anymore, the new one looks awesome.

EDIT: To be fair, the primary use of a Jimny in Australia is to go out onto the soft sand of the beaches. No steep inclines involved.

Yep, it’s going to live at the Baja house, I can drive 20 miles north and 30 miles south on the beach from our place!

So here is the setup that works like a charm! I purchased a wheelbarrow wheel that came with spacer bushings and replaced the front wheel with it (temporarily of course). You will need a 19mm and 14mm box wrench. I dropped the front handlebars by loosening the 4 allen head bolts. It rolled right in to the back of my 2022 4Runner with a simple ramp. Inside the 4Runner the front wheel needs to be turned at a slight angle. The bike strapped down easily to the rear two D rings and the rear rack. I drove 500 mile each way to the Mid-Ohio Vintage races and it didn't move an inch. Word of caution! When you re-attach the front wheel, pull the front brake lever a few times to pump up the hydraulics or otherwise no front brakes initially!! IMG_1263 trail w wheelbarrow.jpeg

Nice work, Hofbrau!!!!
Thinking you could keep a couple shims handy to put between the brake pads in case you accidentally hit the brake lever.
Please post a picture if you decide to putt around on it with the tiny front wheel installed.
This really opens up your options for vacations.

If you can put it in the camper, do that instead. If you can mount it to the camper, do that, but also be aware that this bike has a reputation for making trailers tongue light if you mount it behind the camper instead of between the camper and the vehicle.

If this photo gleaned from the interwebs is accurate, the bike will just barely fit if you angle it across the diagonal. The bike's overall length is 78" and calculations of the cargo space say the longest diagonal dimension is sqrt(66^2 + 44^2) =79". The error margin is too low for me to try something like that myself though and that sounds unsafe with hard braking.
  • Assuming you could teleport it in, the front wheel off option would work better. The cluster on the front is taller than 32". The seat and rack are both below 32" though.
  • This bike has 17" wheels, so in theory you could probably reclaim up to 17" or so by removing both wheels (give or take for fenders). You will still need to relocate 200'ish lbs of bike inside your vehicle if you do that. But it would probably fit with both wheels off.
  • It's worth noting that if you were thinking of using a dolly under the stock crash bars, those aren't designed to hold the weight of the bike, let alone the weight of the bike + tie down straps.
On the global forum for Tern GSDs, I couldn't find any photos of a 4Runner with a Tern GSD cargo bicycle inside it and wheels on (length: 72") which is smaller, shorter, and lighter than the CT125. Note that the Tern GSD is specifically designed to be wheeled into the back of a car exactly as you describe.
The Honda Trail 125 fits in my E250 Ford van so it shall fit in a U Haul or Ryder Truck (comes with ramps). The U haul van needs a ramp. If you are transporting every day then your camper is an option. I purchased two 9 foot Titan ramps. When backed up to a slope, it is relatively easy for me to wheel the motorcycle in and out every day. Getting the motorcycle in and out of your camper daily may require 2 people and a different style ramp.
