USB Charger

Hi,
Arrgh! The threads on this USB thing are too big to fit in the 3 CM hole. I have to get a DREMEL tool now and grind the hole about 1 mm bigger.
The good thing about this USB dual charger is that it comes with an inline mini 10 amp fuse. Comes with a spare fuse.
The mounting hole on the bike (per Honda) says it's 3 CM so this 2.7 CM device should fit (nope) and the wires are 23.8 inches minus cutting off the ring terminals and should fit. (nope)

The device is labelled Quick Charge 3.0 but it only delivers 5.0v.

I have the Kitaco one mentioned earlier in this thread, https://japan.webike.net/products/24090485.html
It is not plug-and-play wiring on the USA bike models that are missing a plug end that exists inside the headlight on Japanese (and maybe other Asian markets) models of the bike, but it fits perfectly into the hole in the bike, screws into place with a retaining nut ring around the bottom of it, and is simple enough to either wire directly to the battery, through the ignition switch, or using a power distribution module of some sort like a Fuzeblocks FZ-1. IMO the price is worth it to not have to deal with enlarging the hole in the bike, and I don't know how weatherproof the USB ports themselves are but the rubber boot cap is nice and I put it back over the whole thing anytime I'm not using the USB ports. My bike gets parked and ridden in the rain and snow, no issues so far.

I elected to consider that the USB will probably break over time, and that I'll have to replace it. It will be cheaper in the US market to modify the bike. STUBBORN wanted to know how I knew the part number, it's because I was considering the case of, "well if I want to undo the thing I broke, how much will that set me back?"

How is the quality of the Kitaco? It seems like all the generic ones off Amazon are cheap junk.
Just wondering before I drop $60.
Thanks

It seems to be decent quality, there isn't a voltage display to go bad and it has a rubber boot/cap to cover it from rain. Haven't had any issues with it.

Ok thanks, the one I bought off Amazon seems really cheap. Hopefully this one being from Japan is much nicer.

Some feedback from one of the Amazon ones. I have a two port one from Amazon.

Electrically speaking, something wonky is going on because while I'm riding occasionally I get a "water in the charging port" warning from my iPhone, which refuses to charge after that point. I can dismiss it for emergency charging eventually, but not every time. I'm not 100% sure how the iPhone detects moisture in the charging port but it's definitely bone dry (there's a few ways it could be doing this, like incorrectly grounding the cable, leaking voltage to the edge of the plug, etc. but it's worth noting I'm using an official iPhone charging cable, not a knock off).

It doesn't happen every time but it is annoying when it does happen. Overall though, this mod is AWESOME and I would absolutely recommend it. However I will probably spring a little extra to set up a wireless charging pad on my Quadlock.

Thanks for the reply. I think I’m gonna bite the bullet and order the Kitaco one.

Regarding the Kitaco one, if you're wanting to run the wiring to the battery instead of doing the positap approach, you should consider ordering the C125 USB adapter instead of the CT125 specific one. It has a much longer cable. The tradeoff is the wiring is more effort, you could drain the battery, and adding an extra SAE cable for a battery tender could be more difficult in the future unless you decide to splice the cables anyway. (Assuming you can find one on in stock, I'm just mentioning it's an option)

I painted the hole and gouges carefully covering everything first so no over spray black paint went anywhere.

I should have read that when I was doing mine lol. I ended up MANUALLY FILING IT LIKE A CAVEMAN and then using the dremel tool to clean it up. STILL managed to have the dremel bounce around.

Looks like a lot of us had a good time with the dremel. Mine bounced a couple times too but no major damage was caused :)

I have it on for about 3 weeks now following the video below and the USB works fine, only charges when bike is on.

It shows most of what I wanted to see. I did end up cutting the included wire from the battery in half (including removing of the fuse part) then pierced the black/yellow and green cable with the posi taps, quick and easy.

Put the fuse back in. The black/yellow connects direct to the battery without a fuse. A short can be very bad indeed.
