I have been to a few of the Gilmore Car Museum’s vintage bike shows over the years but never on 2 wheels. This year I would ride the 45 miles there with my bike just passing 300 break-in miles. Located near Hickory Corners, Michigan this museum should be on everyone’s bucket list —enough said. Started out at 8AM and was glad I dressed for cold weather. The tree lined back roads never let the suns rays through long enough to warm me up. This would be the bike‘s single longest trip as I mostly ride around town with it. A couple of things I noted along the way. I wish I could adjust the brightness of the speedometer. Sure is hard to see in the daylight on sunny days. I should not have installed a mirror extension on the left mirror because it vibrated so much I could barely see anything in it and then it suddenly cracked during the ride and I just stuck the mirror in my day pack for the ride back home. This bike was not designed to be a long distance hauler at high speeds but it was up to the task as shown by others here on this website. I do wish the seat was as comfortable as my Super Cub’s. I may have to look into some kind of padding for my butt. Top speed was 53 MPH on flat windless roads got up to 64 MPH on some downhill spots and the bike felt very stable but I certainly would not want to go faster. The exhaust note was not tiring to listen to for long periods of time. I brought earplugs just in case.
Just as I arrived at the museum they were lining up bikes to go on a countryside tour. So off I went on a 30 minute tour with about 100 other bikes from vintage to modern to see more of western Michigan.
I thought I would be the only one there with a Trail 125, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a gentleman (sorry I am terrible remembering peoples names) who rode his up from Indiana. So we took some pix of our bikes together in the swap meet area of the show.
Hope to see more LRD’s at next year’s show!
