We had a bit of rain yesterday morning, but the evening dried up enough for me to swing over to Marymoor Dog Park, taking my little dog with me. She normally rides in a backpack with me blocking the wind, which also keeps her a tiny bit warmer.
We got there, and everything was pretty normal. Abby Dog and I had a good walk through the park, she was pretty tired by the time we were done. Tiny legs, big park.
When I went to take her home though, disaster struck: the bag strap tore off from the bag.
I've had this happen before on 2 of these bags; it's not usually a big problem because the dog parks I usually go to are close to my home, but in this case I was pretty far away, the kind of distance where a trip with Uber would cost upwards of $140 to go home, drop the dog off, and then pick up the bike later.
I had been considering it for a while but I think this cements that I need to reconsider my future modding options: the crate just paid for itself. Into the crate the busted bag went, and while it was a little more buzzy than she'd like we got home safely. I did find a route that I liked better than the one I had taken to get there (slower speed limits, more gentle inclines, easier navigation), so I will be using that in the future too.
I had considered removing the crate when I do my Apache 4800 case mod, but this cements that I will be looking at the task differently: I'll be looking into how viable it is to bolt an Instacrate on the top of the Apache case with the same bolt pattern as a Rotopax mount.
