I work at Lowe’s and we got some really cool Toughbuilt boxes in, with locking mechanisms
And tons of options for add ons. I got a smaller case, a cutting board/work surface and a cooler
Just installed them the other night and I love the look and feel of em. Quite pricey but I’m liking the stacking design.
I’ll be getting the storage box that’s the same size as the cooler soon. but I didn’t see any reason to rush since I already have other bags I can attach if I need to.

Looks like an interesting alternative to the Milwaukee Packout modular setup that a few people have been using on these bikes. Nice work!

I'm gonna have to visit Lowes and take a look... that looks promising!
It’s definitely a sweet little setup, I did end up also getting the crate attachment as well, it’s $75 I think. It will sit ridiculously high if you stack more than 3 but it mounts so securely I don’t think it’s a problem. I just got the crate to swap to an open top storage if I ever need, also the smaller box I hardmounted fits an 18 pack of beer too perfect lolimage.jpgB597585E-F081-4AE6-B894-A7975A647C50.jpeg

Is it secure / lockable, can you put your $800 helmet, $150 gloves, plus that other thing that cost a bunch in it, and walk away from it, and expect it to be there when you come back? Honest question... can you secure it?

has anyone, anyone ever had anything actually stolen from off their bike? Ever? Has anyone ever even heard of someone getting something stolen from off their bike? I haven't.

I personally have not, though a girl I used to date commuted to her job at a local High School on a MC and on at least one occasion came-out to both of her tires being deflated. I filled them back up expecting to find damage to both tires or tubes but there was none and they both held air fine. If I recall she said that wasn't the first time that had happened.

For me I'm in the why tempt people crowd. If it's secured, or better yet out of sight then there is less chance that someone will try to steal it.

I suppose it's a fair question... I declined that coverage on my insurance because it was fairly expensive, making me believe it's a problem, seems it would be cheap if their risk was low...
Our local police do PSA's on the local radio station fairly regularly saying there is an ongoing problem of people stealing stuff out of parked cars that aren't locked in broad daylight, and specifically mentioning one of most popular grocery store chains, so I guess I'm just making the assumption that helmets/gloves would walk. Easy enough to just take them into the grocery store which is where I would be most worried about them. But if the box is lockable problem solved...

Addendum... appears to be lockable:
  • LOCKABLE: 2 locking points accommodate most lock sizes and types

In the USA I have had a spare gas can, groceries, and spark plugs stolen off my motorcycles. The spark plugs were pulled from the heads, people steal them and smash the ceramic to use as ninja rocks to smash car windows for more theft. Have ridden with folks who have had everything from sunglasses to full saddle bags ripped off their bikes while parked. The Honda Trail is small enough that it's a bit of a theft risk itself and they unfortunately have been stolen. You can't control the actions of others, so it becomes a matter of your own risk tolerance and mitigation efforts. If I'm running into a gas station I don't lock everything down on my bike, but I will pocket my GPS unless I'm riding with others and someone is staying with the bikes.

That's unfortunately my expectation. While I haven't owned a bike in a long while... I have worked on the campus of one of the largest universities in the US for 30+ years, and I can tell you theft is rampant... at the same time irresponsibility among that crowd is high... so one has to temper how bad it really is with the behavior on both sides of that equation. But I have a low tolerance for people taking my stuff. If I came out of a store and saw someone stealing my stuff, I would likely be in a lot of trouble.

^This. In 2016 I bought a Honda Grom brand-new from a local Dealer. As part of the deal they offered me 10% off any part or accessory I wanted for my new bike. Knowing my plans for the Grom were to ride it after work to run errands I told him to sell me the best lock/chain combo they carry. He thought about it for a minute then said it would be a waste of money since most of the Grom's he'd heard of which got stolen just got picked-up by two people and loaded into the back of a pick-up or a van.

It’s secure with the factory threading on the rack from the inside of the box with 4 grade 5 bolts and fender washers , I drilled holes trough the box to position it but also stuck some rubber washers in there to keep it water tight. I’m not sure why you’d want the helmet to go in the box when it can hang by the factory wire loop that’s underneath the seat. And locks with your key. If you’re worried about someone opening the box there’s 2 holes to attach padlocks to since it is a pack out toolbox. I stick a shitty master lock on it while I’m at work since there’s a lot of tweakers in that area but I haven’t had an issue with it. Also the larger box may be able to hold a helmet I’d have to double check.

Thanks for the info, hopefully when the base comes out soon, boxes, crates, etc will be securable to the base thus providing lots of flexibility and ease of swapping out various options. I have a good bit in my helmet/cardo setup, I prefer it to be out of sight out of mind.

This ^^

Steal a pickup, throw an old mattress in the back. Four dirtbags can steal a Dyna - they just throw it in the back. Theft is rampant around these parts.

For my WR250R I use a New York Noose chain and a Kryptonite Padlock. Lock it to something (a sign, or a parking meter). Never had an issue.

In my condo parking garage, I had a buddy Hilti a monster floor anchor into the concrete that I lock bikes to. Almost 10 years and nobody has stolen anything from me, while the rest of the garage gets looted regularly.

Makes one wonder why we (myself included) choose to live in such places. Just this week I had someone follow me all the way to my gate. Drive down to the next property and turn around. Maybe they never seen a Donkey before, or maybe something else… crazy times. I’m planning to move soonish. We are beginning our search for our retirement town. Main criteria… west of the Mississippi, away from population centers. During my life had several things stolen from me, leaves a bad taste after a while.

Our last two moves, both after retirement, revolved around a number of factors with the crime rate being a major consideration. Taxes, cost of living, access to medical care, and crime rate, all were scrutinized. Did we make the best of all possibilities? Not exactly, but I’m secure in my mind regarding crime hereabouts.

Edited to add that I forgot to mention a very important factor, weather. A huge part of our last move can be attributed to weather, and a related aspect, allergies. We moved to Walla Walla fifteen years ago, not realizing that I have an extreme allergy to wheat pollen. Let’s just say that the PNW is a virtual ocean of wheat for hours in any direction and you might get a sense of my discomfort
