hello, just bought a 2024 trail 125 and was thinking of stuffing it (on its side) inside my Subaru Outback for the long drive from the dealer to my home in Montana. If the dimensions work, is this still a bad idea with all the fluids etc. ? Thanks and looking forward to learning from this forum.

Congratulations on your new Trail!

It's not a super light bike and it has plastic body panels. I think you may find it very awkward to load on its side , and risk damage to it. Your call, but personally I'd recommend installing a hitch receiver on the Outback if you don't already have one and then renting a trailer from UHaul. Their motorcycle trailer usually runs around $15-20/day if it's available near you.

My wife suggested I do the same thing (throw it in the back of our Outback). It is light but not THAT light. I have a hitch receiver waiting in my garage to put on. Unfortunately, it requires tearing the entire back of the car off to install and I hate removing panels.

If you don't have a hitch receiver, you could rent a pickup and take it home with that.

Where are you at in MT. I am in Bozeman and have a hitch mount carrier I use for mine that you are welcome to borrow. - Marty

You gotta ride the new Trail home! It's a ride you will always remember. Have a bud give you a lift to dealer.
That's what I did, highly recommend it if it's feasible for you! Just once-over the bike and make sure the tire pressures, chain tension, oil level, and throttle freeplay are all set before you leave the dealer. I brought a backpack to bring the paperwork home in, and I put that in a milk crate that I cargo netted to the rear carrier to keep the bag straps out of the spokes and because I don't like wearing backpacks while riding other than hydration bladders. I also brought a phone mount and phone with offline maps downloaded in case I found myself on too fast a road and needed to figure out a detour. By the time you get home you may find yourself searching this forum for aftermarket seat recommendations :p
