I work for a major utility company, one of the largest in California. One of our top priorities is grid hardening and modernization. We have some pretty aggressive state goals that takes a lot of investment and planning, as well. I used to oversee the SOX compliance of about $2 billion in annual planned work. Long story short, there aren't near the outages there used to be and I rarely worry about whether my backup generator is ready to go.

I'll start another thread about the pup

It sounds like she's projecting Texas' infrastructure struggles,
That is exactly what she is doing. A few years ago I spent two months working in and around the Houston area after Hurricane Ike came-through. I was amazed at how exposed most of their utilities were (at least back in '08) and how we were told to make repairs to put things back as they were before the storm. All of our ideas for modernization and upgrades were rejected by the local authorities.

I tried explaining this to her on Saturday but she was more focused on lecturing my GF and I on our dangerous and risky ways of living "I can't believe you're not home preparing your houses for the storm!" We both rolled our eyes and the conversation ended soon after.

Are you a fellow Local 47 member by any chance? I've been a member since '07 but am not very active in the Local.

No, I'm a desk jockey. Electricity and heights scare me. SAP does, too, but at least it can't kill me.
I don't blame you, even after 21 years in the field I still get nervous sometimes when I'm in the bucket.

We use SAP as well. It sucks. Every revision is supposed to fix the problems, but generally tends to just create new and different ones.

The index is based on Waffle House's reputation for having good disaster preparedness and staying open during extreme weather or reopening quickly afterwards.

"If you get there and the Waffle House is closed? That's really bad.." boy howdy.....lol...

I wish (for many reasons) that my town had a Waffle House. Last night I drove around for 45 Mins trying to find a non-fast food spot which was open. Most in my area closed early or were packed. Finally settled on McDonalds which got my order wrong and then almost got backed into in the Drive-Thru. Still a lot better then what some had to deal with last night.

Have you tried shitting your pan- wait, we already determined the bucket's poop status already.

I appreciate that the guy that lives behind my house works for SAP, and that while they cannot kill you, they can make you wish for death. The difference between working with SAP Hana and my last major surgery was that it only took 5 months to recover from the surgery.

That is a great way of summing-up what working with SAP on a daily basis is like! We, as a company recently migrated to a newer (or different) version of SAP which has come with a whole host of new and different problems. Somehow it's not playing nicely with our payroll system (which isn't a new issue) but the new version is taking any hours worked on Sunday and moving them to Monday, so yesterday my boss freaked-out because it looked like a couple of us had worked 20 hours all on Monday
