…….have you considered clipping messenger bags or small saddle bags to the sides? It would seem like handy rack, ready to go.

30 or so years ago I made a run from San Jose to Corvallis on my BMW R75 using two custom made messenger bags by Timbuk2 (silver and blue to match the bike). I don’t actually remember what I rigged up to keep the bags from flopping around, but I essentially used them in lieu of saddle bags. I had a duffel bag on the seat (perfect backrest btw) held down with bungee cords, and a small pouch stuffed between the bars and the windshield. It all worked perfectly, and I had more than enough storage space for the trip (I’m a big fan of downtime in the laundromat).

Since I intend to run a rectangular crate on my bike, along with a Kemimoto rear rack, I don’t feel like it’s really necessary to buy or build side racks (hence the one I have for sale in the Classifieds). But it occurred to me those long flat sides on the crate, with all the holes for lashing things on, are just tailor made for a couple of bags if the need arises for more cargo capacity.

Anyone doing this?

I run a crate but hadn't thought of clipping anything to it MOLLE style. Great idea!

My mother-in-law is out of town lives about 10 miles away. Ask me this morning if I could run over and check her mail, said she had a small package from Kohls… ask me to collect it before the porch pirates got it. I have a BigAnt crate. Got over there and she had three packages from Kohls and a medium size box like 30 inches wide 8 inches tall and 16 inches wide… I looked like the Beverly Hillbillies coming back across town, but Donkey rose to the challenge. Luckily I keep a set of ROK straps with me. Try that on a street bike. :)

Most 20 or 30L bicycle panniers have 17mm jaws. Opening two small holes in the side of your crate will also allow the locating claws to engage and further hold the pannier in situ

The Chinese shopping sites sell these buckle sets for about $12 so just about any bag or pannier can be used (and IMG_5420.jpegswapped out to your bicycle!)

Milwaukee pack out is genius. @Flash what windscreen is that
Windshield is from an 08 Suzuki Burgman 400. It requires making custom holder brackets. First version was canted a bit and did nof allow to adjust angle of handlebars. Revision coming soon. Sorry it took so long to reply. I am getting used to how this forum sends notifications etc.
