there will always be bikes/cars that are left untouched with low miles for many reasons, usually the best ones are not because of speculation. They are out there but a really old bike that wasn't run in 30 years usually will need a full rebuild of most components if it is to be ridden safely. I see it a LOT, and have experienced it 1st hand many times. Not always, but usually, ....y

Yes so true. Seals and other rubber parts will need replaced. Every seal will leak eventually, and the more one rides an old low mileage bike, the quicker the seals will fail.

I have a pretty good indicator: The bike(s) I decide to hold on to, they never appreciate.
The bikes I decide to own and hold on to, they never really lose value either even after gaining a lot of miles so that's a good data point I guess :)

For some reason I tend to have an easier time selling bikes then I do cars and trucks. Though right now I have bikes which, with the exception of one, I wouldn't want to sell. They all fill a niche or a need in my life, at least for right now.

id hardly call that 'collectible' at this point, they tend to get beat the hell out of by junior racers then moved on. My local shop supports lots of racers and always has 65s/85s/125s rolling thru there for the youth racers. LOTS of them for service work. but i don't think that's quite in the collectible range yet. its a tool more than anything at this point. sweet bike BTW.

I mean, i had my 72 R5 listed for 5k, had some interest but no serious bites. Stock paint, really nice, clean title, and fresh motor w rd topend, digital programmable CDI, (thats almost 1k in ign parts alone), chambers, cnc'd rearsets, etc, ALL service work done, turn key ready to go, and all the stuff to take it back to stock. I also don't care if i sell it, but i've seen way worse sell for more. Hence, the market is fickle on 'collectible' or 'desirable' depending on the minute of the day. lol.

Yes, in the collectable thread but didn't mean to imply that... Noticing that the used bike market is slowing up, zero interest for a year on his Kawi 140, 8 months to sell it!
