The question was , “has anybody had any luck with the plug and play gear indicator” why do so many clueless people chime in with such nonsense? If you know about the indicator, let us know. But all the ridiculous comments are a waste of time. I see people that have never fixed or upgraded anything in their life chiming in here as if they know something.
I have a 2022 model and wound up ordering one of the cheap ebay plug and play gear indicators. It came with a replacement sensor capable of detecting all gears indtead of just neutral. In stock form it did not work however it was as simple as de-pinning the non sensor side of the harness that came with it after everything was wired up and touching the leads to the pins in the different gears until all gear numbers matched the proper gear.

There is always a need for information to the rider on a motorcycle. Honda should be ashamed of bringing a bike to market in 2024 now almost forcing the rider to purchase these basic aftermarket parts for information.
I would disagree. I like to ride and get away from all the information overload of 2024. The ct is a get away from it all for me…

The fact it is one or two speeds less is not that relevant either but to each their own.
I'm actually quite happy that Honda chose not to load the Trail up with a lot extra gauges or indicators. It keeps the bike more basic and the cost down. Honestly had I been able to get my Trail with an Analog Speedometer I would have.

That said I'm not some sort of Luddite who shuns Technology, I just think there is a time and place for it. My most modern bike is a 2020 KTM Duke which has a digital cluster and shows me just about everything (Current speed, Tach, gear indicator, fuel and speed averages, DTE, gas gauge, a clock which can't keep proper time and three odometers). Fun to play with at stoplights but tends to be distracting at speed.

For how I use my Trail I'm good with basic. My TW200 is also pretty basic (it doesn't even have a gas gauge!) So I guess Yamaha should be ashamed as well? LOL
