Insurance question

For those of you that understand insurance better than I do, I have a question. Because of a bumpy (paved) road, one of my straps came loose, and I ended up dragging my Honda down the road. It did over $2,000 damage. My insurance company wouldn't cover it, because it was considered a "collision". I didn't have collision coverage because I mainly drive it on dirt, Forest Service type roads. So for those of you that know insurance, should this be covered under "collision", or something else? Thanks.Honda 125 disaster.jpg

We have 6 bikes insured, the minimum is $99/year and since we have all of our insurance with Allstate we get something like a $80 discount per bike but couldn’t use it as there was the minimum. I got creative and went full coverage on the bikes, with the discount we still pay $99/bike! Won’t help you now but our agent is really good with maximizing the system for us.
Sorry about your bike, I’m not sure what you could do.

If your hitch mount had failed that might change things and shift the insurance over to the Jeep, but unfortunately if they're saying your CT125 policy doesn't cover it, you might just be SOL. Ask to talk to different people at your insurance co about it, make a big deal about it and request that they clarify the policy not covering it in writing.

Unfortunately because it's a motorcycle, it's unlikely that any other insurance you might have (Jeep, home owners or renter) would cover this damage to your property.

Another long shot, call the streets dept in the town of the bumpy road. It is an absolute PITA to pursue but I have collected on some damages to a vehicle from poorly maintained roads. Specifically the city of Chicago reimbursed me for damages to a tire and wheel caused by a pothole, twice.

I dunno man, that looks like just about nothing would have covered it. Comprehensive would have covered the straps unexpectedly failing, or the hitch failing, or the moon falling on your bike but because you were in control of the vehicle at the time and there's a big questionmark on whether you strapped it down perfectly, I'm not sure even comprehensive would cover this. Liability insurance is carried by automotive transportation companies for this reason, but that's different too.

Insurance is a messed up business. Like if I avoid hitting a lamborghini who merged in front of me but in the process destroy my $50 jacket, that's not covered, but if I instead hit the lamborghini, destroy my motorcycle in the process and also my jacket, then I get money for both the jacket and the motorcycle. I swear they're literally in the business of being evil.

Back in Australia, when you took your bike to the AHG track for rider training days, you were not insured on the track. It was generally one of those unspoken things that no one ever crashed on the track, but we all witnessed them crashing on the first roundabout outside of the track.

Yeah, it's unfortunate but insurance is pretty much of a farce. We all have to have it, but good luck when you need to use it! I carry full coverage on my bike but I have no illusions as to how much they would help me if/when I need it.

Yeap that's collision claim. As my insurance adjuster told me when my son dropped my motorcycle taking it of the center stand. "It collided with the ground". If the wind blows your bike over it's a comp claim, if you knock it over it's a collision claim. If a concrete block falls off a truck and hits your car it's a comp clam, if you hit a concrete block on the road, it's a collision claim. If you hit a ditch avoiding a dog and the bike falls off it's a comp claim, if you hit a pothole and the bike falls off it's a collision claim. But you probably don't have comp either.
Bad deal hope you get to looking again.
