I forgot oil turns white. One of the answers to "what should I do if I get in this situation?" is to pull the engine and rebuild it, but is it necessary or suggested to do that if you get water in the engine?

You don't need to rebuild the engine unless it's damaged. If you dunk it under water turn off the engine immediately. If water fills the cylinder and you continue to let it run it will bend a connecting rod, or worse window the engine, since water won't compress like air. If you shut it off before that happens, pull the spark plug and crank the engine over to pump out any water as shown in the videos. Then change the oil as water in your oil will reduce the lubricity and damage bearings as well as rust the inside. To be really safe change the oil, run it for a few minutes, then change again.

Also remember that dunking a bike is allowing water in to all the electrical connections and can cause problems down the road as the corrosion takes a while to develop. That's why flooded cars are usually total losses. It will nickel and dime the insurance company to death down the road as the electrical gremlins pop up.

This showed up in my email message from new member VoodooCLD as posted on this thread but I don"t show it posted here. (It didn't flag in my message inbox here on the forum either. Weird.) Good info.
