Has anyone tried one of those automatic kiosk key duplications on the CT125 key?

I have a blank now but have been concerned about getting it cut. Locksmith was not real sure about it for some reason.

I just got the blanks, but the reason I ask is I temporarily lost my keys earlier today, and I was wondering how viable it was that someone could have copied the key while I didn't have it. I thought the answer was, "not very likely" but it's nice to have that confirmation.

I would think an actual Locksmith (not an automated key machine or an old guy at Home Depot) could probably dup them, but it would cost some money and I doubt many people who find a random set of keys would put forth the effort or the money to do so.

I did once have an ex who claimed that while I slept had stolen a master key ring I carry which has keys to most everything I care about (houses, garage, work, padlocks, etc) and had them all duplicated. She didn't. Women can be a bit crazy. Hope your situation was less exciting.

There's two reasons for asking. The first is that I'm going to get one additional key made, with a blank spare available for the future, and stash that in my on-person toolkit (the one in my jacket I use for automatic clutch adjustments, etc.). That way if I do somehow lose the key in the future, it'll save me the $60 uber each way to and from work.

The second, related to the first, is just related to the generic difficulty I've had with getting one extra key from Honda. Like I know that code on the master key to quote to them for a replacement key, but none of the Honda's near me can use that service. Can a KeyMe kiosk do it? Can a locksmith do it without the key blanks from Honda? Will a locksmith get weird if I turn up with key blanks? etc

Ace hardware told me they could cut it but I had to supply the blank. Forgot to add there was no (or is no) guarantee that it will work.
kind of hard to roll a 35$ blank and hope. Like you, no love at the Honda shop with code of not. Weird, right?

there's a ton of vendors on ebay that will cut a key and mail order it if you have the code off the key. look there, im serious, have used them a bunch of times for my vintage bikes. usually 15-25 bucks depending. Find out who the local dealership uses, because you know they aren't doing them on site.

Honestly, some rando on the internet being able to cut a key to spec via eBay makes way more sense to me than the lack of ability of any of my local Honda dealers within 100 miles being able to do the same.

Never a bad idea to have extra keys, regardless the reason. I once almost lost the key to a MC while I was hauling it in my truck (I'd been in a hurry and forgot to remove it from the ignition). Had I lost it my planned morning of riding would have been much different.

I've ordered OEM blanks for other bikes off the 'net and taken them to my local old-school Locksmith and had keys duplicated by them. The last time I had it done the Locksmith told me that had I ordered the blank from him he would have charged me less. I think the total cost was ~$10 so IMO it wasn't a huge extra expense to insure I had an OEM blank as opposed to whatever they would have ordered.

FWIW I've never had the modern-style keys like our Trail's use duplicated; only the old-school ones. I don't expect that the process would be much different, provided the shop you go to has the correct key machine.
