Your story kinda reflects my own perspective and experiences. Nice box on the rack!

You can get a black OEM rear rack through Webike, that's what I did.Love the color, wish they had sold them here in the states in that color. I wish I could get my hands on a black OEM rear rack as well. Notice any appreciable difference with the rear shocks?
I really think soAnyone remember a song called, “Turning Japanese”?
Hi Tex, not yet mate as I’m waiting for a battery trickle chargcable and associated lithium charger to arrive. I can then button the bike back up. It’ll come tomorrow hopefully.Love the color, wish they had sold them here in the states in that color. I wish I could get my hands on a black OEM rear rack as well. It hasn't changed! I started going there in 1989. The riding area and rules changed about 17 years ago when the Buereu of Land Management built a perimeter fence around the area, a Visitors Center and started charging for access ($15/day). That made a lot of people mad and I'll admit I only go out there now a couple of times a year for the races. It also remains the dirtiest place I go. The dust, silt and sand are pretty unforgiving. Driving onto the lakebed Saturday morning we were in a line of four cars and trucks, at the end of the dirt access road we hit silt and the car in front of me disappeared in the dust. We cut hard left and got out of the dust, though after two back-to-back trips in the past month the air filter in my truck is toast. Leaving the lakebed we took an alternate dirt road which is longer but not as heavily-used but has a pretty serious section of sand. My truck and trailer glided-through it but there were ruts where other have struggled.Since this is off topic, I'll delete this reply tonight, but here is what El Mirage looked like about 25 years ago. I was even old and slow back then, if you want to skip to El Mirage, skip to about 17:23 in the video:
