Tappet covers

The Ruck Shop had a sale on finned tappet covers so I got a pair, they might help with cooling when I'm slogging around slow in the woods.

Good idea. I just ordered a pair also. It gets really hot out here in the desert, and that little engine will need all the help it can get, dragging my big butt around.

I'm going to show my mechanical dumbness with this question. When you replace the covers, do I need to have the oil drained?

I'm not an engine guy, more of a body man. I was thinking about having those covers anodized red.

Nope, you might lose a spoonful out of the bottom one, nothing to sweat. Red would look pretty good, I went with black for the most cooling I could get.

That's what I ordered too.

The machining on these is very well done. There was flash and weird spots on the OEM covers. All the oil in the bottom, stayed in the cover. Easy job. Let's hope it helps, this summer.
