Yoshimura Exhaust System Upgrade

I installed a Yoshimura Machine Bent GP-MAGNUM Cyclone EXPORT SPEC exhaust system on "Skooter" this morning. The instructions were definitely not in English, but I figured it out. Then, I took him out for a couple of hours to see if I liked the change. I definitely do! The performance is only slightly better in the low to mid range, but I really don't care. I changed the exhaust because I wanted the bike to sound more like a motorcycle and less like a child whining. It sounds sooooo much better when I've got the throttle buried. Of course, if I didn't like the sound of the stock exhaust, then I must absolutely hate the squealing brat sound the stock horn makes. That's why tomorrow after work, I'm installing a Denali SoundBomb Mini Electromagnetic Low Tone Horn. It arrived this afternoon while I was out having fun.

Actually, the new exhaust is not noticeably louder. It just has a fuller sound in a lower tone. Here's what the carbon fiber model looks and sounds like ...
. I see on the forum that most owners are trying as hard as they can to black out the exhaust system. I actually prefer it to stand out and not blend into the overall bike's appearance. As far as pics, I'm going to wait until the full transformation from stock bike to "Skooter" is complete. I still have a lot of mods arriving over the next several weeks that I'd like to install first.

I love loud bikes, like really, really loud bikes, but there's something about this bike and its quietness that appeals to me and makes me want to keep the pipe stock. To bad they don't make a high flow pipe which retains the sound, or rather the lack of it. I know you, @m in sc have modified the exhaust by cutting out the cat and replacing part of the skinny pipe with a thicker one, how much did that change the loudness as compared to the stock header?

that in itself didn't do TOO much (sound wise) but some. what really helped with flow and gave some sound, was removing the back plate out of the muffler, (the one that unbolts under the endcap) cutting the tube/spark arrestor out of it, and putting in a bigger one just out of the back plate. I tig welded on an 8? mm larger id tip to the stock back plate after i opened up the hole in the plate. It looks stock to the untrained eye and is still pretty quiet. Pretty sure i have pics on my camera @ home.

How much did you end up paying (with shipping) if you don’t mind me asking?

Do you need to repack the gp-magnum once a few years? I'm considering to buy one, but repacking is above my skill levels.

I went with Harley Sportster muffler. $20. Sounds great I think. Muffled not loud. Not poping. Seems to rev nice and free. They show up at garage sales and HD bike shops. Somd are even free. The stock muffler donated some hardware, brackets and front portion of header pipe. A tad trucky ti welkd thin wall tubing. Once the HD chrome heat shields went on welds covered anyway.

50 km on since retro fit. No Engine malfunction lite. Running very strong.had removed front catalytic element. Went looking with bore scope found the other internal cayt in the stock muffler. Opted to just convert the shiney one to fit. Had to cut off stock muffler mount from old muffler used the internl tapered pipe as a transition to HD size pipe. Retained front stock heat shield. HD makes nice chrome.
