I'm looking for recommendations on a reasonably priced, good quality, well designed hitch carrier for a Trail 125.

Thank you

I have 5 or so years on a harbor freight hitch carrier, not perfect but works just fine. Haven't put the 125 on it but carried the 90 and my 450x without issue.

I made mine and have hauled MUCH bigger bikes on it, but the HF one is decent for sure. make sure you're using a 2" receiver. class 1 is a joke.

Agreed. I have a steel one as well, its heavy as hell (not the one i mentioned earlier). strong? oh yeah. will you throw your back out moving it? absolutely. can you haul a 600lb bike on it? no prob. but def overkill. i don't think ive used that one for over 5 years.

all the strength is in the 2" tube that goes into the receiver. thats what matters. Ive designed and built carriers, so if you are shopping.. look there. make sure it has good fitment. expensive doesnt nec mean better. But the moto totes are nicely made.

Does HF carrier have a anti rock mechanism built in to keep the rack from rocking side to side?

in the 20+ years i've used one i've never needed an 'anti rocking device' if it fits well into the receiver and the bikes been strapped down correctly. I've carried everything from a SOHC CB750 to an 89 CR500 to a GT550 to a 2014 gladius to my custom framed RD350. Also never lost or dropped a bike on a trailer or a carrier or ever even had a strap come loose or off. I mean, if dropping 5 to 800 bucks on a carrier is what some feel is necessary, cool. to each their own. To keep one from jumping around though, you use a strap the chain eyelet on the hitch. and yes, i've been offroad with a rail and the CR with my old truck. Like said, they are nice but def overkill for a featherweight like the trail.

try a ratchet strap to the safety chain hook slot in the hitch to the corner of the rail. will dampen it a bit. also, on the tie down points, use the loose end of the strap to loop through the eyelet the hook is on. wrap it around the hook, use a single leg knot, and it physically can never ever come off. I might have to take some pics, things i learned a LONG time ago that have served me very well.

Just took mine on a 400 mile trip with the harbor freight ramp. Honestly very impressed with the build quality for something H.F. Bike did not move and only shaked a tiny bit on severe bumps or potholes (I could monitor with my back up camera.). I added some cheap trailer lights to the bottom since it blocks my right truck light a bit. The only negative is that it's obviously made for a slightly longer motorcycle as the rear wheel doesn't drop into the slot, but it wasn't really a problem. I ended up using 4 ratchet straps as I just usually overdo it on things like this.

With the bike weight at 265 lbs it sits about 16" at center behind the truck. Add the rack weight and using a handy online leverage calculator, I estimate there is about 400lbs at the hitch, so make sure your vehicle can support that. (this Silverado is rated for over 900 lbs tounge weight so easily handled it.).

I also use this anti rattle device works great:

Thumbs up for the great price! Oh and don't bother looking for HF coupons they apparently don't do that anymore. Best bet might be to wait for like labor day and see if they do a 20% off everything like they did on July 4th

What brand of windshield is that? Looks effective for highway...

Black Widow aluminum carrier. 400 lb capacity. Very pleased with the quality and ease of use.

Thank you for the link(y)
I should add the windshield and brackets seem well made and is very solid at 50+ mph. No instructions came with it so it took a minute of figuring out, but, pro tip:. The bolts you replace with theirs fit the back rack holes.

OT but where do the windshield frame mount to the bike?

Mounts to the triangle shapes bracket that holds the headlight on each side.. The windshield comes with longer replacement bolts to accommodate the bracket.

Couldn't really take a picture as it mount behind the brackets.
