If you have ever travelled to Asia, especially Southeast Asia, you would have noticed a proliferation of scooters and other larger motorcycles. It's not a luxury but more of a necessity for the people in this part of the world to have a relatively affordable way to get from place to place. In the West the motorways are more designed for cars, but in Asia a lot of the roads are smaller and the distances between towns is relatively shorter, so the need for a car is not as important or necessary. The small size and fuel efficiency of a scooter is all that is needed for most locals and expats.
