Better than a Kawasaki KLX250S?

Like many on the forum, I've accumulated several bikes over the years and sell anything that doesn't get ridden very often. When I bought my Trail 125 in February, I sold my 2012 Kawasaki KLX 250S to pay for it. That bike benefited from a number of performance and convenience accessories including an FMF pipe and proper jetting. Though it was 11 years old, the mileage was only about 3500 and it was in near showroom condition. Now by virtually any measure, the KLX 250S far exceeds the Trail 125 in raw performance. Except of course, in the area of smiles per mile. Having spent decades on two stroke dirt bikes, a KLX250S never really rose to the level of true dirt bike in my mind. I wanted something that would easily loft its front wheel over obstacles and cut corners effortlessly. Instead, I got a soft, mildly torquey, overweight trail bike that never felt very stable in deep sand. In contrast, the Trail 125 announces from the start that it's no high-performance dirt bike. It doesn't look like one, or sound like one, or perform like one. Getting from point A to point B takes extra thought, and its trail and road speed is closer to half that of the KLX250S. But it does what it advertises itself to do very well, especially with a few thoughtful modifications. It's general nature puts you in a happy, cruising state of mind. Since February, I've managed to ride it 1100 miles and it's looked pretty as can be doing so. Wheelies are out of the question, and I paddle my feet in deep sand. On the plus side, gas mileage has settled in at about 115, and that makes me smile. The Trail 125 does pretty much what you expect it will do and is very likely bulletproof. That's the stuff of beloved motorcycles. That's the only kind of performance that really matters to most Trail 125 riders.
