Bow or rifle? I ran a rifle across my bars the first time I took my old 72 out hunting. Hitting branches while driving on cow trails let me know that was a bad idea, switched to a vertical mounted Kolpin hard case on the left rear. Worked great!

Rifle, but mostly on fire roads. Would use the sling in narrower stuff.

I mounted it to a Gcraft Multi Side Rack. I can take a picture of it when I get home.
