Anyone mount a camera to the bike?

I don’t really like the idea of mounting a camera to my helmet so looking for ideas on mounting to the bike itself. So far I’ve seen recommendations of a GoPro or Insta360.

@MisterB has a dash cam setup, https://hondatrail125.com/index.php?threads/koso-apollo-heated-grips.1282/#post-12768

I have mounted my phone, GoPro, and Insta360 to the bike to record videos. The GoPro and Insta360 both have video stabilization features that are really necessary to get a decent video. If you are using a regular GoPro (not 360) you likely want to mount it to the handlebars so you get a perspective of where the bike is steering rather than a firm shot from the body of the bike. If you go with a 360 camera you can choose the video perspective in post so that doesn't matter as much. Definitely do some feature comparisons. My opinions are that the GoPro is more feature robust and good for recording longer rides and a dashcam perspective. Insta360 is good for shorter videos where you want to be in the shot and also showing off the surroundings.

It really comes down to what you are trying to achieve. My regular setup is a Chin Mount GoPro because I'm capturing video of my path of travel, scenery, some train chasing (on faster bikes than the CT125 😅 ), and I also take regular still photos with the GoPro. The Insta360 is new for me, I don't like it yet but I haven't gotten over the learning curve yet either. I was just on a trip with a rider who took all her videos on an Insta360 and they were great, just not the style of video I like to shoot because I usually leave myself out of shots unless I'm recording with a MotoGP style camera perspective of the camera behind me to review how I do with body position while cornering.

Thanks for all the info!
I was considering one with the 360 feature so that it can do front and back view in one but not sure if that would work well. Thinking if I mount it to the handle bars I might be in the way of the rear view but not sure. Have to look more into what the view is like.

Here's a few pics of the one I have. Got the gopro free from a friend of mine. He had it sitting around for a few years and never used it. It's old and doesn't have stabilization but it works. I was looking to get one of the 360s, the 3rd person view looks pretty cool. When I'm sitting on the bike it doesn't obstruct the view of the speedometer. Got the mount on Amazon Action Camera Handlebar Mount, usmallbee 360 Rotation Metal Camera Motorcycle Mount for GoPro Hero9/8/6/5/4/3+ Action Camera,with 1/4 Screw for Moto Bike Bicycle Handlebar Gopro Clamp Mount https://a.co/d/fd80BpY

@Donkeythekidd Do you have any footage of it in that position? I'm curious about the vibrations, especially since my mirrors vibrate pretty hard when the front brake is released and I'm idling at a traffic light.

Here you go. This was recorded with a GoPro Here Session. 1080p 30fps As you can see it's pretty shaky, and at certain speeds the video gets distorted. I'm sure with the newer GoPro's the quality is way better.

I put a regular auto dash cam behind the windshield of my CSC RX4. Haven’t had a chance to test yet, but I like the idea. I have go pros, but I just can’t figure out how to use them. I‘m not an exciting rider, so it‘s nothing anyone would want to see.

Even when you figure it out, it can end up being a lot of work. I'm not as ambitious about recording videos as I used to be because I've recorded on long distance trips where I've had to manage rotating memory cards, rotating batteries, transferring files, editing, etc. The good side to that is most of what I capture now is what's interesting and worth the hassle to me. It's kind of like having a film camera vs digital where you're more conscious and selective.

I have a GoPro mount as well, mostly for Timelapse’s.
