Did the engineers at Honda intend a specific use for this?

As I get to know my CT125 I noticed 2 threaded holes under the outboard left rail on the rear cargo tray. Is there a specific purpose for these or just an added gem for us to use our imagination. I welcome your input.

Those are region specific and are present on the 2023 model year (JA65) CT125 for Japan and Canada, but not the USA or Thai models.

There is a Japanese market OEM accessory side rack for a locking case that attaches there:

And there are also aftermarket accessory side racks that attach there.

Though these parts aren't listed through Honda Canada's accessory page, they can be purchased online from sites that ship internationally such as Webike.
