Dimple Magnetic Drain Plug anyone?

I saw everyone seemed to use Gold Plug MP-01. For some reason, I've always used Dimple plugs in my motorcycles (about 7 bikes in the last 10 years or so). Once I had a brand new bike model and Dimple sent me the wrong plug and their customer service promptly fixed it for me. So I'd like to stay with Dimple. It worked for me. It collected more dust in a bike made in West Germany than in a later model made in Germany ;)

Dimple makes one for Honda bikes at M12x1.5×12. I guess that should work? Gold Plug listed Thread Length (with washer): 12mm, so it should be very similar.

I wonder if someone here is already using Dimple? I searched and was surprised to find nothing.

I been on bikes a long, long time and I can’t say I’ve ever used one, or had it available to purchase. It’s just a drain plug.

Just double checking if there'd be any clearance issue, but the thread lengths are the same 12mm it should be good. Dimple has been available 10+ years. I always thought Dimple was THE brand for quality magnetic plugs made in the US, until I got the 125 and came across this forum.

Did a bit more digging. Gold Plug didn't say what kind of magnet they used. Dimple said "Regular neodymium magnets lose magnetism at only 175 degrees Fahrenheit. Dimple's® Black Hole High Temperature Magnets are rated at over 300 degrees."

Maybe it's just moot.

That size should be fine. The main thing to be on the look out for is that if the magnet protrudes much more than the size of the bolt. The bolt installs into a cavity in the crankcase where the oil pickup filter screen is, if the magnet portion were to extend too far I believe it would damage the screen and potentially block the oil pump inlet hole.

My Dimple plug arrived today. Its thread length plus the magnet looked identical to the thread length of the OEM plug on my 2023, so no clearance issue possible. I may lose a bit thread engagement but it looks fine.

The 17mm nut has a pre-drilled hole for safety wire but I'm not going to use it. It also has a hex hole in the nut I guess for tight space access. I just used a 17mm socket to torque it, no clearance issue at all.

All good. Another option for magnetic drain plug.

Whatever Gold Plug is using has been fine when my engine was seeing 320+F readouts from the OPMID (cylinder head). Whatever loss of magnetism it has experienced, it's still plenty to stick to the the magnetic parts of the bike when I'm doing an oil change and support the weight of the plug. So the lower Curie point either doesn't matter or doesn't apply to the Gold Plugs.
