That sounds like bad luck of getting the wrong person working on the title transfer. Sorry to hear you had to go through that hassle.

I've never dealt with getting a vehicle title in TX, but in other states even with weird vehicles, imports, and having paid in a foreign currency it's gone smooth paying taxes based on the bill of sale. One thing I take care to do is look up and see if the state or county that the vehicle's seller has it registered in has an official bill of sale form. If they do, that's the one you want to go with. If you or the seller write up a generic bill of sale when an official one is available, some states and police departments view that as a meaningless piece of paper even with the signatures on it.

Oh I hate this kind of stuff. Fortunately here they don't tax motor vehicles like they do with other property taxes. Just pay for the plates and tags and that's it.. Taxation like that is such a rip off.

As a fellow Texas resident, and having purchased 2 of these beloved bikes in the past ~6 months, I would have given a bit more pushback on the county “ ‘cause it ain’t listed so you gotta jump thru hoops“ crap. Admittedly, my 2023 was purchased in Oklahoma, so I had to do the title/registration myself (which included my need to get a “Safety Inspection” … Yup, cost me ~$8, plus the regular Sales Tax and registration fees) but was otherwise painless. My 2024 was all taken care of at the dealer. So Texas DOES know what these bikes are.
Did you have them look it up as a Honda CT125A? “Trail 125” isn’t the official designation… I’m just guessing… but pretty surprised that they didn‘t know what it is. And not trying to piss off the Gods of Texas vehicle bureaucracy, but not “accepting“ a Bill of Sale? WTF?

Sorry to hear that your county made this so difficult. I have many vehicles and sometimes TX vehicle bureaucracy can absolutely drive one to the comfort of a bottle.

But now you are riding a Trail! All is good with the world (admittedly at a slower pace)!
Enjoy!
