There are a few different styles of handguards. Two-point mount ones offer the most protection and cost the most. Single-point mount ones have a bar that hangs in front of the hand but doesn't mount to the bar end, often called knuckle guards. There are also single-point mount ones with just a light wind/rain/rock/brush guard in front of the hand, unsupported by a bar, which provide the least protection other than having no hand guards.
If you're looking at quality 2-point mount ones, those Acerbis ones are honestly a reasonable price. Search Fortnine for "handguards" and you'll see that most of the other brands sell single-point mount ones that offer less protection at the same price or more. My personal issue with counterfeit ones is that they're counterfeit and what potentially goes with that. I'd have less hesitation on buying ones with their own branding on them and honest reviews saying they held up alright in a light crash and you get what you pay for. With a counterfeit, the reviews are
more likely to be b.s., fit and finish are likely to be off (as you've encountered), the manufacturer is likely doing everything they can to cut costs and maximize profit, and since they don't have a reputation to uphold (it's not their brand), they could be unscrupulous enough to make the steel bars from whatever miscellaneous scrap metal they could buy cheap and smelt themselves. My final reservation is just the morals of giving them money for a counterfeit. If they won't accept a return, I'd go so far as to do a chargeback if it is clear that it's a counterfeit and not what you were expecting to have purchased. IMO if they were to actually make a decent product, they should and would put their own logo on it.
Other than the ones listed on Fortnine, there are ones in Japan and Thailand that are confirmed to fit the CT125, but by the time you get them to Canada the price probably wouldn't be worth it.
