Gas Can mounting problem. Please Help

Hello group! I have ran into a problem, hopefully this forum can help!
I had an idea to mount my gas can to the action-packer that I have installed on the real rack of my trail 125. Everything installed with ease. But, I ran into a problem where the side wall of my plastic action-packer would fold out from underneath the lid. I wanted to blame the extreme heat here in South Texas for making the plastic malleable, but that's not the case. I took the 125 out for a ride at night, temperature went from 110 degrees during the day, to 85 degrees at night. Still, the side wall of the action-packer would fold out from the lid itself.

I've ran out of ideas on how to stabilize or reinforce the side wall of the action-packer. Any ideas would be helpful. here's some photos.

This photo shows the wall of the action-packer folding out from the lid.

And finally, just a nice shot of my Trail 125 :)

Nice bike, shame about the padlocks …

Do you really need so much extra fuel? A couple of tubular drinks/fuel containers tucked up under the edges of the rear rack and secured in place with reusable zip ties might be easier - I think someone on here showed such a setup a few weeks ago

yeah the padlocks are a must in such a sketchy town..

I am planning on going on a three hour trip to a different city and I would rather not stop at gas stations and waste time. so the extra fuel is a must for me.

thanks for the advice but I managed to fix everything! the side rack that I got from beezdeals didn't come with any instructions. but I just figured it all out and its working very well!20230627_021001.jpg20230627_021011.jpg

i was going to suggest a reinforcement panel in the box to put the screws into, but you got the side carrier and looks sweet! i run the smaller jerry can for mine.

My thought, what is a brass padlock going to do when the hinge stubs on the red plastic handles go about 1/2" into the plastic sides. I've had mine pop out with regular use and no locks. I would think that transferring fuel from a station pump in 45 seconds would be faster and less hassle then monkeying with 10+ pounds in a janky plastic jug hoping it wouldn't break or leak if I dropped the bike, crashed, or got hit.

I guess Im more of a KISS person, more mods in my mind just show off the next weakest link, the mount, jug or bolt holes you are hanging 15lbs off the side of the bike... Let us know how it goes!

i would have just run a ratchet strap around the cooler to retain the gas can, if i were to ever need to do this..

Issue being the action packer is far from a cooler, it is just a thin single layer with some strength from the corrugations. Guessing the long sides would compress and bow out the front too... The lid is at least 2 layers.

I'm using that same fuel container on my off-road car (though I have mine filled with oil). These 'Long Haul' containers are not even close to the same quality as a RotoPax (which is what I use for extra fuel on my bikes and the afore-mentiond off-road car). As others have said, I would be nervous about having that much fuel hanging from the side of my bike. Also, beware of the fill-cap as, at least on mine, it seems a lot less robust then the one the RotoPax use so spills may happen.
