My Trail 125 is coming up on 1 year in AUG, hard to beleive it has almost been a year. I have about 1500 miles on it. Wanted to get some thoughts pro's/Con's on buying the extended Honda warranty. Thank you. I'm kind of leaning that it is not necessary, the one thing I do like is the roadside assistance as I don't have a truck. $386.65 1 year, $459.80 2 years.

I will be passing on extending mine. If you had a lemon or bad luck it could pay for itself, but on a bike with an MSRP of $4k, it's a real game of chance whether there's going to be an issue covered by warranty where it will pay for itself in parts & labor, and Honda are betting that it won't pay for itself so they can make a profit selling peace of mind. It only covers manufacturer defects, and there's a long list of exclusions that are wear and tear or expendable parts. If you're just looking for roadside assistance, AAA has some plans or add-ons that cover motorcycles and can be purchased over the phone and used immediately after you pay for an annual membership. My AAA Plus RV package with motorcycle tow coverage costs $177/yr. Your motorcycle insurance may also offer (or already have included) some roadside assistance that would likely also be cheaper than buying the Honda Care for that purpose. Some credit cards even include roadside assistance as a benefit.

Honda has published the service contracts for Florida (not sure why Florida specifically, maybe a state specific legal requirement?) if you want to see what would likely be covered and not covered:

I’ve been told in the past “I am my own warranty center” for what that’s worth to you.

I got it with mine, because just the towing made sense. The towing deal on the warranty is if you break down for any reason, they'll give you up to 2 gal of fluids and/or tow your bike a certain distance free of charge to the local honda dealer or your home, or with a discounted charge beyond that. 95+% of the issues I'm going to face will be "need tow" or "ran out of gas" type issues so that was a huge, massive appeal to me. Beyond that, every other element of the Honda extended warranty does not apply on this bike IMO.

Then when I talked to my local Honda dealership they gave me conflicting information so now I gotta talk to Honda and see if I wasted my money. My local dealer said, "not in this state" when I was asking them about it but that conflicts with Honda's public website, to the point that I would have a demonstrable and reasonable legal case of misleading advertising resulting in fiscal loss.

So in short, I'll let you know what I find out as I pursue this, and I'll try to get it done prior to July 31.

Thanks for the sound advice!
