How do I keep up with a Super Cub C125 on a CT125

Hi,

I have a SC125 (stock), C70 with 125cc Lifan and now a CT125. The first two can hit 60-61mph. What would be an easy and affordable way to get my CT125 up to those speeds so I can keep up with those bikes on long trips with family? Sometimes we ride out in big groups on roads with 50-55mph speed limits and I'm going to be only one on a CT125. I can keep up fine with my others in our group on my 2 Super Cubs.

Right now I'm thinking an air filter and exhaust may be enough, going without a big bore kit is preferable. Then if that is not enough a TB cam and EFIE. Hope not to mess too much with the fuel.

Please share your opinions with me on this.

I’m thinking the easiest, fastest , smartest and cheapest way to keep up with your buddies is ride one of your two Super Cubs. That is what I would do and leave my CT125 stock on the fuel flow, gear ratio, cylinder size, etc. You can change your sprockets for a shorter gear ratio, that will give more top end speed, but have adverse reaction to the low end trail gearing. I agree with backwoods, ride one of your SCs. Why end up with a bike that barely goes much faster at the expense of reliability and longevity when you already have bikes that do what you want?

'expense of reliability'

explain how mines unreliable now? :ROFLMAO: and it will do 62-65 pretty easily.

fwiw, gearing alone won't change it, it needs HP to push it which isn't there in stock form. look at the BBK threads.

One recommendation I could offer is that you use a larger windshield. I was able to pickup a couple mph on the top end conservatively. I also replaced the 14 tooth front sprocket with a 15 tooth. I can't say that I picked up any top end speed though. At least it doesn't scream at 55 mph. Another mod for safety of engine would be to switch out the spark plug to one that runs cooler. This helps to avoid pre ignition on long wide open throttle runs. NGK CR7EIX is one step cooler that factory ( CR6 ).

Thanks everyone. I agree I can just take the faster bike on the trips, but it would be nice to take the CT125 sometimes. So far I ordered an exhaust. I will look at getting a taller windshield in the future and spark plug.
