Insurance Costs for Trail125?

On a lark, I decided to get a quote from my insurance company on the Trail 125 using one of the VIN’s listed at Nault’s. (Thanks for nothing, Dover_MA :) )

I was quoted $729 in addition to my two cars and bike. Is it me or is that really high for a 125CC bike? My 2011 FXDC is only around $700/year, is 1594 cc’s and is worth 3x as much as the Trail.

Is anyone else finding the Trail 125 costs as much to insure as much larger, more expensive bikes?

screenshot of 1 of the 2 bike policies i have.

No, not insured for theft but not worth it IMHO at least around here. But if taken from garage, its covered. (and its gps'd). that's 165 bucks a year for the 5 bikes on that policy. the other policy which has more is 360 ish. fyi, im not even a senior yet, so, no discounts there. this is a straight up progressive policy.

That is very good. I do have pretty high coverage levels including collision. 100/250/100 i think, but my policy for my other 3 vehicles is under $2,000, and you would think that the CT125 can’t do a lot of damage so insurance would be lower.

you have some nice toys. I really have to get rid of the Harley. I never ride it.

Thanks.
after having dealt with a few insurance claims including one on my 62 falcon a few yrs ago, i realized it wasn't worth the collision coverage, overall, on things the insurance companies will devalue in a heartbeat when a claim is filed.. (unless you went with agreed replacement on vintage with haggerty) or a brand new-ish vehcile that will require lots of costly body work/structural to repair, like when i hit a deer in my ford edge. . Just my .02

I have six bikes and they are each at $99 per year, full coverage. All of my insurance is through one company so I get discounts but the least they can charge is $99. So I worked with my agent and cranked up all the bikes to about $280 a year but then the discount brings it back to $99, the minimum.

it’s Allstate, but we have a lot of things insured with them and maybe only one claim in the past five years

I might follow up with them and see what’s going on. All my policies are with these guys. I have to carry a certain level of coverage due to my umbrella policy, but it definitely seems high.

Then again, I am in MA, so we pay a lot more due to the government protecting consumers.

All-

I would say that comparing insurance rates is a fool's errand. Rates vary wildly by state, your driving record, age, marital status, and a host of other factors. Here in NJ, with the highest rates in the nation, I probably pay more for one motorcycle than some in the mid west pay for their bikes, cars, and house combined.

I went to my insurance company to check the cost before i put a deposit down. I was quoted 150 dollars. Which I thought was high because my Spyder, 1300cc only cost me 290 a year.

Yeah, if I decide to get a Trail I will probably see what the lowest level of coverage I can get is. There are minimum levels I need for my umbrella policy, but I don’t think that I need collision, and that is probably more than half the premium.

I just insured mine today (got it last night) full coverage, 500.00 disappearing deductible 25% per year. I have progressive on cars and home so went with them. 139.00 per year

Same. I'll be calling my agent tomorrow to see what can be done about that. I'm paying $210/yr comprehensive coverage with Statefarm, bundled with another auto & renter's insurance, 0 violations currently on record. My last 125cc bike was about $30/yr with antique plates and state minimum coverage, but I wanted comprehensive coverage for theft & fire on the CT125. Even though locations, coverage, and driving infractions vary, I appreciate folks sharing their rates to get a ballpark of what's reasonable.
