….but I’m wondering who else hear used to frequent Adventure Rider, or perhaps still does?

When I was deep in the throes of sidecar infatuation, it was my go-to forum. But once the last sidecar moved out, I came to a sudden halt visiting there. I had decided at that point that I just wasn’t going to ride bikes anymore, but since that idea was rescinded I’m a bit more interested in the low speed/high drag world of the CT125….again

I go for the 559-page Trail thread mostly. I remember first posting in that thread 3 years ago when I was just a wannabe. I rarely venture out of that thread and don't visit too often. I go to sovietsteeds for my sidecar stuff.

I did and sometimes do, but only to stir up the shit on that site. It's packed with pompous, know it all jack asses. who's only way is their way. It just isn't what it used to be, that's for sure.

I check that thread and was also following Pilot Parker's adventure. Some folks fled the ADVrider forum for alternatives when it was acquired by VerticalScope as some folks have negative opinions of the company and its various acquisitions and communities. That change of ownership happened over 2 years ago now. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think this forum and community are one of the greatest resources available for the Honda CT125 specifically. @TrailBoss does a great job running it and promptly addressing issues that arise.

I hadn’t realized that ADVrider was under new ownership, but it makes sense. It’s been years since I visited, but today when I went there to poke around I discovered I’m no longer even recognized as a member. That’s usually a sign of some bad mojo in the management process

I agree, but I wish it had a lot more participation, but then how many CT's are out there really, a few hundred at best?

Kids don't do forums (fora?) much anymore. More traffic also equals more drama.

I've only seen one other Trail in person.

Yep. Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube replaced much of the use of forums over the years with Facebook being a one-stop-shop for posting photos, videos, classifieds, trip reports, asking questions, organizing outings, and publishing some technical how-tos. I have a throwaway account on FB just because I often use Marketplace to buy and sell things. Plenty more scams there than on Craigslist, but Craigslist is just a bunch of crickets in some areas these days.

I've only seen two Red's in the back of a truck headed toward Tejas, truck had Texas plates, so not local to me.
I do know there one roaming the southern deserts here in NM looking for the best Green Chili Cheez Burger, and I hope to meet up with him as it warms up and I head south to fish Elephant Butte!

I use FB to sell things but mostly to give things away that I don't need anymore because selling is too much of a hassle. People flake even when it is free. I recently created a second profile to join all of the motorcycle-related stuff. It is mostly boring. I did the same thing on reddit. Just as boring. I think I'm just getting old.

I have an alias on fb for the marketplace only, john Smith. I have had some luck buying and selling things there. Less hassle than cl.

So far the winner is the cactus Cafe in Deming, hand patted burgers and fresh cut fries cooked to perfection. 🥰

I Lurk over on ADVRider. Mostly because there is a monster thread over there which relates to whether or not a Forest Service gate near my house is open or closed. The info on that thread from people who actually live near (and one within sight) of the gate is more accurate and timely then the info the Forest Service posts on their site.

What I get tired of on that same thread are the 'Throttle Jockey's who brag about riding or getting around closed gates ("Gotta get my weekly ride in!") And complain endlessly about 'Cagers" who are in their way. This particular Road/Trail is less then thirty minutes from my house so I regularly (when it's open) go up there; sometimes on a bike most times in my off-road VW Thing for testing and Tuning. Occasionally my GF and I will jump in my 4x4 and go up just for an evening ride. I'm a believer that trails are for everyone and bad actors quickly get them shut-down. Case-in-point this same trail is always in danger of being closed because the locals are sick of people (mostly bikes if I'm honest) racing (sometimes literally) up and down a narrow, canyon road with houses on both sides. It's to the point that when I ride up there I generally park my truck a mile or so in from the official Staging Area because I don't want a local messing with my truck while I'm out riding.

Back to the ADV point though. There is a wealth of information there; I learned a lot about one of my KTM's there. Still my go to when I want to know something. I've also toyed with the idea of offering the guest room in my house to long-distance Moto Travelers. The section of long-distance trip reports are one of my favorites to peruse when I'm having a slow day.

As far as seeing another Trail in the wild. For me I've seen one. Late one night I was running a call for work and saw a red one just riding down the road. It looked so close to mine and I was close enough to my house that I logged-onto my garage cam to make sure mine hadn't been stolen LOL! I hear there are two others near me; we were going to try and meet-up for a ride once but it never happened.

I have no beef with ADVRider, I lurk there as well, but never got into the conversations much. My main problem with it is it's too big and lacks organization. One 555 page thread for a bike is just not good organization of information. That's why I like the more specific forums, they are a better vessel for the information about these vehicles.

One thing that does bother me about ADVRider is they don't recognize the KTM 390 as a bike worthy of its own forum there. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting it but I always chalked that up to hubris.

Facebook - I use that only because certain local social groups I belong to use it. My main beef with FB is privacy. There is none. Zip. FB takes every bit of information about you from there it can gather. Where you go, who you know, etc. Fun fact - they even capture keystrokes when you type in a post box, even if you delete/revise them prior to posting. It's just over the top big brother type stuff so I severely limit my exposure. The other problem I have is once again, the information is generally not organized well.

If I ever win the lottery, I am putting an air gap between me and technology. I'll have a personal assistant that I will speak to directly and discuss the day's activities every morning while drinking coffee on my veranda overlooking my estate.

I already had it planned out but my numbers didn't come up.

Agree on the massive threads there being dubious for later reference. I frequent ADV Rider for my 3rd gen KLR needs, and regional stuff. KLR forum *should* be the better source for the former's needs, but the cultists I mean...the most frequent posters there are just intolerable. Various Triumph forums seem to be a lot of people that don't understand the US has the Magnuson–Moss Act, and we won't be imprisoned for changing our own oil. This forum has been very helpful in the day or two I've spent lurking. And I think a lot of that has to do with the CT/Trail being a newer bike and all of us learning at a similar pace -- no intense group-think, or "indisputable" knowledge (i.e. KLR thermobobs, doohickeys, etc.)

FB groups are either decent or completely awful. Found a decent 3rd gen KLR group from an in-person suggestion of another KLR rider, FB's suggestions were all pretty bad. But haven't found a decent way to search the back-catalog of knowledge that might have been posted in any FB group.

I've successfully avoided being on FB. Probably a good thing since from what I hear it's a place where people like to argue and I'm sure that not having access to FB Marketplace is the reason why I can still afford to feed my cat twice a day LOL!

The downside is, I do miss-out on things because I'm not a part of the 'FB universe'. A car club I used to belong to went to using FB as opposed to a Forum and it became a pain for me having to find-out from others what was going-on, so now I don't belong to that car club anymore. Same with medical stuff. Recently a friend of mine was in the Hospital for a few days. I found-out a week or so after he was home when he asked his wife if she thought it weird that he hadn't heard from me and she told him that I probably didn't know he'd been ill since she'd only posted it on FB. She was right, I had no clue until he called to tell me. That was a shock, but not enough to get me to sign-up.
