Hi folks,

This is my first post since joining the forum having imported a 2023 CT125 in to the UK.

As part of my bike security I've invested in a Monimoto 7 GPS tracking device to help when any thieving little scrote tries to steal my bike having already gotten around the chain, disk lock, gravel drive and 60kg Greater Swiss Mountain dog when kept at home :D

Monimoto 7

I was wondering is anyone on here had purchased anything similar and had any suggestions as to where it might be best placed either on or within the bodywork?

Many thanks in advance.

Apple Air Tag for the win.

I have used subsription GPS services in the past and never really been happy with them. YMMV

If it fits in the toolbox that would be a good place for it, I have put an Invoxia tracker there. Just be sure to add something to keep the toolbox lid from popping open. Other places you could conceal it that are under body work are the downtube/spine area where the plastics split in the middle, there is room to stuff something there. There is also room by the rear brake reservoir under the side panel on the right side of the bike. For mounting it under the bodywork it will hopefully still be able to have connectivity through the plastic. You would want to secure it. Maybe very strong hook and loop stickers.

There is a thread on theft here with other things you may want to consider such as additional locks, alarms, bike covers, and most importantly theft insurance.

Doesn't it beep unless you split and disable an AirTag speaker? To prevent stalking and such?
Yes, it starts 'singing' if it's discovered by another phone or if it hasn't been in-contact with the phone it's paired to for a period of time (I think it's a couple of days).

How I get around that is most of mine are housed in secure containers which are attached (by strong double-sided tape) to whatever I'm tracking. Bonus that these containers are just large enough for an Air Tag, don't have any Apple (or other) markings on them and by the fact that the two halves screw together they are sound proof.

Other odd places I've hidden Air Tags in my vehicles: Inside an extra pair of boots. Or wrapped in an old T-shirt under the rear seat.

All that said I think there is still a way for people to turn them off if they're discovered. I recently had some work done on a classic truck I own. It's Air Tag stopped working a day or so after I dropped the truck off and stayed non-working for the next couple of weeks until it was ready to be picked-up, at which time the Air Tag started working again, so it's by far it's not a foll-proof system, though I do like it a lot better then any of the subscription services I've used previously. FYI The batteries seem to last about a year, but are easily replaced. They use a CR2032

This is the container I use for my Air Pods. On my Trail it's mounted under the seat.

Guessing no one in the shop has an iPhone, or if they do their “find my” Is limited or turned off. Needs an Apple device to pass by in range to work is my understanding.

I thought the same thing, except for it's a busy shop, plus the couple of times I went down there to check on progress I was unable to reconnect to the Air Tag, which made me think that someone had turned it off, much like a person would if they found one hidden on them. Or maybe it was a fluke, I'm not sure. I do know it's not a perfect system but so far I like the Air Tags for my uses.
