Could I ask why? M in SC I think said even on his built grom that oil temp wasn't really an issue... At least that is what I think he said

Do you have an aftermarket cylinder? I believe you will either need an aftermarket cylinder or clutch cover for the oil supply and return lines to connect to.

Nice! If I ever land a nice Honda CN250, that's a scoot I'd really enjoy doing the Scooter Cannonball Run on. The Trail would be fun, just a bit more of type 2 fun since those routes almost always still land you on stretches of road where the Trail would be going much slower than traffic.

There may be a ADV150 in my future, just for things like that. When I plan my longer rides I always avoid faster highways. Even the 395 through Owens valley is a 70 mph proposition. Love the LRD and will pass it down someday.

where is it pulling the oil from? i'm curious about that for sure. On the grom motors, you either intercepted the oil feed thru ports on an aftermarket cyl, OR, the takegawa aftermarket clutch covers had these ports. IF it bleeds off the system somewhere else, its actually bypassing some lubricant. I saw a few like this.

I mean, it won't HURT but i was running a 170 4v head with really high compression. It didn't make a huge difference but it helped. On a stock motor/compression i cant see it having much benefit at all especially if you are moving at any kind of speed. effort and money better spent on a high volume oil pump. IF you run a cooler, you definitely need one.

if you look here, I used the 2 ports on the cyl, but there are 2 additional ones on the clutch cover (red anodized banjo bolts).

Good headsup! Cancelled order. I may add a couple Steady Garage Heat sinks.

Looks like day 3 through our town, I’ll keep my eye out! Don’t look at temps in Havasu in June, it might make you sad…. It is a dry heat as they say.

I took a good look into that oil cooler setup, it does bleed of the pressure on the head bolt passage. I think this would be OK IF you run the higher volume oil pump. (a good idea anyway) but keep in mind, this does take pressure from the head. however, it returns it back in the top valve cover so will supply a splash oil right on top of the cam.

Following the kiss protocol would you believe the benefit of cooler oil outweigh the risk of any of the new failure points?
Seems to me the aftermarket doo dad manufacturing sector may have a lower quality threshold then mother Honda…

Ive run a few oil coolers the quality isn't an issue at all. honda gets stuff made by tier suppliers all the time, morin is a good mfg. that being said, lots of people have run these. I would put in the bigger oil pump as im not a fan of 'bleed off' oil coolers vs 'inline flow'. But they work.

fwiw, when my grom blew up the ONLY part that failed was a stock OEM Honda part. It would also (just) do 100 mph. ;) Head, cyl, oil cooler, clutch, cover, etc was all aftermarket. The only example of an aftermarket part i had fail was the takegawa 143 piston, was a design flaw, and even webike saw it my way.

Running an oil cooler also adds volume to how much oil the system holds. That's another good thing for an endurance type event where oil/air cooled engines are prone to consuming more oil than water cooled engines.
