Hello Everybody.

I've been drooling over the honda trail for a few months now, and just saved up enough to justify getting one. However, I'm out in Oregon, and every dealer is backed up at least a year around me.
How did you guys get your bike? Why is it so hard to get?

Anyway, I'll be lurking around, and will post a wanted ad on the off chance someone around me has one for sale.

Mine was pure luck right place at the right time. Never saw one in person before I bought it.

Welcome to the forum!

I found mine in the Classified section on this site last June. Thankfully it was only 20 minutes from me. At the time I was getting ready to buy one from a dealer in the Bay Area. Would have been a fun weekend road trip.

Don't be afraid to have one shipped to you if need-be. I'm seeing a lot of them popping-up on the East Coast right now,

Yeah I found one over on the east side, but it would have been 5800$ before licencing and taxes. It was something like, 600$ in dealer assembly fees, 300$ in freight to them, then 750$ in shipping to me, and a smattering of other things.
A good portion of why I like the bike is it's thrifty and practical aspects. Blowing 2k more to save a bit in gas is questionable.

Call every dealer you’re willing to drive to. You might get lucky with one if someone fails to pick up theirs when it comes in. Find the shortest waitlist and get on it. I was willing to drive 10 hours to get one. You will eventually find one or yours will eventually come in.

I called every on that had a Trail listed on Cycle trader in Washington and Oregon. So far it's the same story, "we get in 1 to 6 a year and have a 10 person long wait list. 500$ down to get on that list"
I'm going to keep trying!

I think the PNW hipsters are buying them up to put in their garage. lol

The dealers kind of piss me off. They all have them on their website and it looks like they have one. It’s a popular little bike with super low production allocated to the US. Keep looking and find the shortest waitlist.

I get that. A dealer in my city had one on their floor when I started looking last May which I was ready to buy, except for they wanted $6,500 OTD for it! When I told the salesman that was way too much and he didn't budge I mentioned buying one from out of the area. He told me that out of state shipping would be crazy high, that I'd never be able to register in it Ca, etc. I just grinned; I know all about what it costs to ship vehicles back and forth across the country (two months earlier I'd bought a truck in Kansas and had it shipped to me in So.Cal.) and I happen to enjoy and take Road Trips often so for me I was actually a little disappointed when a week later I found a year-old one in my area.

Keep looking! They're out there!

Guilty. While I doubt I could ever be classified as a Hispter, I've only put 100 miles or so on my Trail since I bought it. Plans are to ride it more next year. Maybe even get the tires dirty at some point LOL!

A Road trip is not a bad idea. I have a ton of time off banked at work, and could use a real adventure.
If I flew/bussed to the bike, and mapped my way back avoiding highways, I wonder if I could get it back in one piece!

Anyone tried a long trip on theirs?

Quite a few people have done cross country trips on the bike on and off road. SomeGuyRides has documented his trips. RTWPaul has done 48 states on his. A few others have also done the Trans America Trail.
I've done some weekend camping and 500+ mile days on mine. On YouTube you can find many CT125 owners in Japan and Thailand with very luxurious overnight camp setups - they bring camp chairs, tables, small kitchens, lantern hooks, sometimes a folding bicycle for around camp, etc. Very cool to see different touring setups from different parts of the world.

Revzilla had two of their staff members ride a 1970's CT 110 and a brand-new Trail125 from Anchorage to the Barrow (or what used to be called Barrow) Alaska. They made a Youtube video of the trip which is worth a watch. Spoiler alert: The CT110 was problematic almost from the start; the Trail 125 never missed a beat! :giggle:

There's also a video of the rebuild on the 110, worth watching as well.
