I ordered a 45T rear sprocket and I have a 13t on the front. I also have the 14t that came stock. Does anyone know if the stock chain will work with the 45t and either the 14t or 13t front? If not does anyone know what chain length will work? I also ordered Shinko 241 2.75-17 for the front and a Shinko 244 3.0 dual sport for the rear. I decided that I have street bikes so why not make this 125 into a real trail bike.

Nice reference, thanks for posting.
I hate to say this out loud on a public forum but I was thinking of going in the other direction. I may mimic the Super Cub since I don’t see any TAT-style adventures in my future. Oh I’d LOVE to, but my life doesn’t have much flexibility for adventure riding. I would’ve been happy on the Super Cub but it’s a little more cramped for my size. Also I think the Battle Scooter aesthetic fits me better.

My Trail 125 found it's soul today. It was struggling between trying to be a street bike and a trail bike. I finished the 45T sprocket install today. I am getting to old for this, it was a pain in the ass. I knew the stock chain was not going to be long enough so I drove to my Honda dealer for a new chain. I asked the parts man to look up the stock chain and see how many links it had. He said 108. He sold me a 122 and I carries it back to service.and asked them to cut it to 114. I figured adding 6 more teeth would require 6 more links. Service cut it for no charge. (50 mile round trip). I was wrong. It was way too long. I banged and smashed and tried to drill out 3 links. No good. Drove out again to the local machine shop and had them do it. They took out 4 links which should have made the chain 110. Wrong again. It turned out to be the exact same length as the stock chain. I was about to give up for the day it was now 3PM. Drove out again the the Industrial supply shop and did what I should have done from the start. I bought a roller chain breaker. Drove back to the house made a chain that worked. when I tightened the wheel axle up the wheel wouldn't turn. Looked and saw I had not seated the rear brake caliber properly and required that I pull the axle out again and realign. I had been on my 71 year old knees on cement for hours and I started to invent new swear words.Took care of that and buttoned up the rest of the job. Lubed up the new chain with Honda wax spray on the center stand. OK now was the moment of truth. I warmed her up and started on my home circuit with hill climbs. First thing I noticed is that in first gear I can ride at 5 or 6 mph putting along watching the scenery. I was shooting for a first gear on the Trail 125 to be close to second gear low range on my CT110. That is the sweet spot for me trail sight seeing and hill climbing. I ran her up all 3 of my hills which are all about 45* or more and I was flat out amazed. The bike did them all so effortlessly with only a slight amount of throttle. It was for sure more relaxed RPM wise tha my CT110 was in second gear low range. Score 1. Ok now to do a GPS speed test and compare. Right away (about 1 mile) the ABS light came on. I hit a flat road and was cruising between 42 and 45 mph on the GPS, The digital speedometer was off by 13 MPH. At 42 , 45 real mph the bike could run all day and night. I hit a low dip and GPS speed hit 51 but did not hit the rev limiter. My LRD found her soul today and she will remain in the family for generations. I also put on a seat pad today. Now I have a happy ass too. Shinko 241 front and rear 244 arriving at the end of this week.
Someone said about this bike (It is what it is.). Not true at all. maybe not much you can do to it to make it a better street bike, but there all a worrld of things you can do to make it a true trail bike.

Same age as you. Try this.
You will thank me.

Chatham-As soon as I saw your first post I was going to answer to try to save you some trouble but you are too fast. This thread:
is where I got my info. Thanks r80t. He supplied the info and did the research. 112 chain length works for both of my set ups. 13/45 (trail) and 15/45 (street) just have to adjust the chain.
I think, like you my bike will pretty much stay on the 13/45 combo as I don't use it much on the street. Easy enough to change the front sprocket to the 15 for more relaxed RPM on the street.
When I used to ride dirt bikes I had a similar episode as you with chains and I bought a Motion Pro chain tool. Have used it more than I ever thought I would.
The fuel injection and slight increase in hp give this new version of Trail a lot of "grunt".
Glad you found a set up you like!

ps-I've been using knee pads for years now.

I’m still happy stock! I can ride a 250 2t, fi 250 4t, or either 450 4t dirt bike for the trails. Sounds weird to go OG on a 2021 bike set up

Installed my $11.00 tachometer today. @40MPH 6700 RPMS. @ 45MPH 7100 RPMS. Not sure how acurate it is . It shows a hot idle of 1380 RPMS. This is with the 13T front and 45T rear.

Just installed my cheap tach today as well. Idle is the same as yours. I'm not test riding it for rpm today, I'm riding my other bike. Only so much play time in a day!
