Hey everyone, Is there any reason I cant put the cdi system off an old xr 200 motor onto an even older ct 125 engine that I'm assuming was originally points? The covers are the same and fit on, and the cdi stuff bolts onto the cam. If so do I need to swap the stator over from the xr 200 engine aswell?

as long as the timing is correct and you have the cdi igniter etc should work.... i've done this on other bikes. but you need to swap over the entire ignition system and address the charging system as well. usually the timing can be the biggest hurdle and you have to be pretty savvy at wiring.

So the big problem I can see is that I can swap the flywheel over but its wider than the original and so is the casing with the windings attached, which would be fine, I could just swap the casing over aswel but it has a massive crack in it and its a wet flywheel so unless it will work with the original flywheel and windings im kinda screwed, will the cdi run on the flywheel and windings that were original to the points setup or not?

I can say this much. some of the other models or even other makes might work. for example, on a cr85 powered bike I own, to gain a lighting g circuit I worked with some aftermarket gy6 ignition setups. you may want to reach out to HPI ignition (europe), or even treatland in the us for options. I looked at hpi, they don't have one specifically listed, but if you ask they may have one that will work, they are very sharp. I have one on an rd350 that is fantastic. just some ideas. good luck!!
