Lost my tool bag and allen wrench due to stupidity. I bought my bike outright from the deal and for what ever reasons it didn't get my title until about 4 days before the temp tag expired. I basically had a one day I could get my plates because of other obligations. I had kept my temp registration in the tool box and upon removing it I left it open with the wrench in the "key hole". Too cold to ride that morning so I took the car and headed to the BMV and quickly forgot about the open hatch. I forgot about it for 5 days. My heart sunk when I noticed it and lesson learned. Rode around my fairly limited routes but no luck. I know the tools are easily replaced by even better ones but I am still kicking myself a little as I like to keep all the OEM stuff.

Oh well, learn from my lesson... just lock 'dat box immediately after use.

Similar thing happened to me. I had my temporary registration and tool bag with other tools I had added "locked" in the box. Allen wrench stored back under the seat. A few days later I noticed the box was open and empty. Like you, I also rode around my typical routes looking for my lost objects without any luck. Two days later I noticed a yellow piece of paper on the corner across the street. To my surprise it was the registration. Looked around the area thoroughly for the missing tools but never found them. I will use a zip tie or other secondary security method on the box before using it again.

Anyone else have the Allen not quite fit in the fastener well? I was going to grind down a dedicated wrench for the bike…

You guys know that the latch needs to rotate 90 degrees in order to be fully latched? At first I was reluctant turn it so far because it felt like something was about to break, but looking closer on mine I could see the latch needs to turn a full 90 degrees (clockwise) and in doing so it drops into a well formed detent. As received from the dealer mine was not fully latched and easily could have vibrated open. And I agree - the hex is a little snug when inserting the Allen wrench.

I do understand how it works. My issue was the mentality "I'll take care of it when I get back" and then completely forgetting about it.

Sorry Astro, I misread your initial comment, totally my mistake. I've seen several people suggest that the lock doesn't work well, and that the door can open on its own. I wanted to say that initially I thought that too, but later realized I wasn't fully engaging the lock. Again sorry Astro - my fault.
