Rear rack question.

Does anyone know why the handle on the rear rack is on the front of the rack. The CT90 and CT110 have the handle on the rear. Not that it matters, I am just curious if there is a reason for the change.

I've only seen speculation such as ergonomics of it as a grab handle, to protect the seat from cargo and block off enough space for the seat to flip open, or to shift weight of a passenger more toward the center of the bike if an accessory seat is mounted on top of the rack and it's used as a passenger grab handle. The change is not specific to the CT125, earlier models in the lineage also had the handle at the front of the rack such as the single seat version of the C90, Super Cub 50, Super Cub 110 (the most recent "Postie"), and the Cross Cub 110.

Quite a few riders, especially tall ones, have complained that sitting far back on the seat results in hitting their tailbone on the bar.

Thanks for the reply. I have read the complains from taller riders as well. I also real that some riders put a pool noodle over it to make it less intrusive. And some go to the extreme and cut it off. If I get ambitious I will look into rotating the tray 180 and see if it lines up. Cheers.

Ride it for a while before you do anything too drastic. I find the handle mildly annoying on long rides but its usefulness for putting the bike on the center stand and pushing the bike around in the garage FAR out weight the minor inconvenience on longer rides.

I can save you some time on trying to rotate it 180 degrees: that won't work without extensive modification to the rack. The shape and mounting points only fit in the stock orientation, same for the air snorkel that attaches to it.

Thanks for saving me the time on the rotate idea. It doesn’t annoy me enough to get the grinder and the welder out. Thanks to everyone for chiming in. This is a great forum. Cheers!

I've thrown a short length of 22mm pipe insulation over the offending article. I did see someone on the FarceBook CT125 UK group who'd chopped about 3/4" to 1" out of the vertical part and re-welded it. Would still work for preventing cargo moving but not much use as a handle. Keeping the idea on file for the future.

I did the pool noodle thing and secured it with zip ties and it works beautifully. I did this because I injured my tailbone on that bar.

I use the side of the rack for a handle, I have the basket set back and a seat for the kid mounted so easy access to the side of the rack. My thoughts as to why on the front is she doesn't have the power to throw things off the back accelerating vs hard braking and throwing that 30 pack forward!

I use it for a grab bar when rocking it back on the center stand. I've felt it once while riding and I simply slid forward to avoid it.

Might even be able to find a nice Honda red one!
