pop rivet one side of the velcro to the pan. 2 rivets, aluminum, done. use 2 part epoxy in the back as well and it will be there for all eternity.

i just keep my reg/ins in a snack sized zip loc in the tool kit.

Hey Mick,
Well, I've officially joined the club of those who have broken the small tab at the top left on the inside of the side cover. Everything else was fairly smooth. I kept questioning myself when I was trying to free the cover. Am I pulling too hard? Am I breaking everything? Yikes! You may recall the reason I needed to remove the cover was that it looked as if I needed to add brake fluid...wrong!
As it turns out, the fluid was full. What actually happened was that when I looked through the rear fluid peep hole it looked empty. Well, not at all. In reality, it was so light in color that I couldn't discern where the level was. So, I learned something. I wanted to thank you and bay125er for the diagrams and advice and the others who offered their advice. Great citizens on this forum.

I was wondering about the brake fluid level low on 2 low mile bikes. I haven't checked mine or know where it is!

as a side note, those 2 tabs were basically history on mine early on. however, the cover had never rattle or come loose to them not being there so, IMHO, no big deal.

I joined the broken left tab club today too, while removing the side cover to install the exhaust crash bar that everybody ends up buying once they realize how easy it is to damage the exhaust shroud.

I don’t know how anybody manages to remove the cover *without* breaking that clip, because I wiggled and jiggled that darn thing every which way I could think of and just couldn’t get it loose. Maybe it’s easier to remove the plastic if you take the exhaust off all the way but that seemed like way too big of a PITA for me to even consider.
