Rust on chrome rear view mirror posts

Attached Is a picture of rust which happened on my chrome rearview mirror posts after only six months. This may be the only chrome on the whole bike. After treating it with flintz I wrapped it with three eights inch flex guard split wire loom at the suggestion of my neighbor who is a monkey owner with the same problem. I think the end result may look better than the original chrome.
