I was merely asking if others had thought of this scenario and what they would do in a situation like this.
I've always heard of it as this: Treat your bike like it's a stack of cash. If it's not secured, it could go walkabout. If it is secured, that just slows thieves down or discourages them. We win whenever they're discouraged or slowed down enough, but like IED disposal, we have to win every time and they only have to win once.
Some people will see that stack of cash and leave it the f alone. Some people would report it and turn it in. Some people would pocket it and not think twice. When you park it on the side of the road, that's leaving a stack of cash there. Out in the boonies, stack of cash in the middle of nowhere. I'm a leave it the f alone sort of person.
IMO, the effort level for securing things fits a long tailed distribution curve. A small amount of effort yields a substantial result in stopping theft. Stop them walking away with your stack of cash. But even the bank insures its money.
