Hi guys...been watching a lot of vlogs from Asia and am starting notice that their shift pattern is different than USA...is it me or does their CT shift up gears by pushing down on the lever as oppose to lifting up?

I think the Supercub might be a reversed shifting pattern (down vs. up), not sure though. I'm pretty sure the CT125 is the same as the US Trail 125 (4 up).

A few vlogs coming out Thailand shows them shifting and although I can't understand what they're saying, the shift up is clearly down...weird...maybe they modified it with Cub parts? Is that even possible?

I doubt they're modified, more likely I'm totally incorrect. If they do shift down though, I must say it's the oddest thing ever to change up a standard. It's like putting the gas on the left and the brake on the right.

I wouldn't do it either but I wonder if this is a thing over there...

I had 2 1974's but different generations, shifted exactly opposite. I did make a few mistakes!

change the shift drum. they arent allowed to do that in the US, mandated. I have 2 67 (yamaha and kawi) with that same pattern. actually, i quite like it. Canada got it also, was discussed in another thread.

This thread discusses the different shift patterns. To convert to the USA & Australian market shift pattern you will likely need to replace the gearshift drum, the gearshift drum stopper plate (a.k.a. gear indexer or star plate), and the gear change switch contact cap.

In this 2020-2022 JA55 model parts diagram below the parts with "IN" next to them are Indonesian market which has the rotary shifter, while the "U" ones are Australian market and should be the same as the USA.

You're welcome. Just a heads up on the scope of the conversion, you would need to pull the engine and split the cases to swap the shift drum.

When you refer to "Asia" do you mean India? Pakistan? Saudi Arabia? There are 48 countries in Asia. Are you referring to the Orient? Oriental countries? Are shift patterns the same everywhere?
