Still looking in the SF Bay

Hey folks!
New user hailing out of the East Bay who doesn’t have a Trail125 yet but wants one bad.

I’ve mostly been a scooter rider over the years, currently have a 2008 Ruckus and used to ride a 1983 Yamaha Riva 180 back when I was in college in the late 90s.

I was looking at some listings for used Super Cubs as a possible commuter scooter a couple weeks ago when I saw the CT125 and fell in love. I’m looking for something that I can use for a 12 mile daily commute on flat streets in Oakland and also throw on a hitch and ride the trails when I’m visiting friends in Gold Country and the CT125 seems like the perfect bike for me.

Unfortunately it’s literally impossible to find the dang things around here. The last dealership I called said their wait list is over 2 years long and they won’t add anybody else to it at this point because Honda hardly ever sends them and they aren’t expecting any more for this model year.

Hi Jack!

I'm in just about the same position as you- I used to have a '74 Trail 90 that was a blast to tot around Berkeley + Oakland with until it got stolen a couple years back. It's the perfect size bike for East Bay cruising and I'm looking forward to hunting down a modern one. When we both track them down, let's meet up! Maybe a little motocamping trip up to Lake Chabot.

Also try hollister powersports. My buddy was on the wait list. They called him last week to tell him they had one but he couldnt pull the trigger on it. Might still be available. No deposit or anything to get on the wait list, which was nice.

PS- If you do end up driving to hollister, you could stop by Corbin to pick out the custom seat that you'll be wanting after the first 50 miles on the stock one...

Lucky for me, I was number 8 on the list and all 7 ahead of me passed!!

I'm still number 2 on the list at GP Sports in San Jose and might use that and get a second one. They got 7 last shipment from Honda. My total wait time was 4 days, called almost every dealer in California. GP had the shortest wait list but was $100. If I pull my deposit i'd expect you would be #2.

Any idea what the OTD price is at Hollister? Our taxes in Berkeley are stupid high but I found a dealer that will sell me one for $5,600 out the door, and this used 2023 model just popped up with 210 miles for $5,100 with the OEM racks and windshield…

$5339.53 OTD for the '23 at Hollister Powersports in July. The used one on CL looks promising. Whats up with the red snorkel though? Its nice that it comes with the racks and stuff but I would be hesitant to buy if they fiddled with the motor unless you trust the seller.

Yeah, I was all over it and gonna call in sick today to go pick it up until I saw that snorkel. The color combo looks awful and I can’t think of any reason why anyone would swap that out unless they “did a bad thing” to the bike and went with the previous color replacement piece since it was cheaper or more readily available.

It looks like they may have just added red accents. Note the keychain, cushion on the rear carrier grab handle, and the red on the grips. Not to my liking, but you could ask if they have the original parts to put things back. The OEM grips would have likely been cut off, but they aren't anything to write home about. I have a red USA bike with black rear rack and snorkel swapped onto it similar to the Japanese and Canadian models. IMO it breaks up the red.

If it checked-out in-person I'd go for it!

Peoples tastes in the customization of these bikes vary a lot. I bought my Trail on CL in similar shape (I think mine had 800 miles on it) but it had been farkled to the hilt! I un-did 90% of them the night I got the bike home, gave most of the stuff away to other members on this forum and have never looked-back.

I think the odd-color Snorkel could be a nod to a trend I see with some of the Asian Tuner Cars here in So.Cal. A lot of them will do things like that. Maybe it's a trend?

Ended up pulling the trigger and putting a deposit on a new one at a dealership an hour or so away this morning and I’m planning on hauling it home in the back of my Honda Element this weekend. 😂

I don’t have an M1 license since I’ve mostly just ridden 49cc or smaller stuff in the past so I guess I’ll be signing up for that safety course in Alameda in the next couple of weeks.

I did a similar course a few years ago. Good refresher for sure.

A Honda in a Honda! It was a tight fit and we had to tilt the bike at about a 40-degree angle while pushing it up the ramp but we were able to cram it into the back of a Honda Element and only needed to remove the mirrors.

Hey Just Jack, berkeleyhiker, and all,
New member here. I live in San Jose. Been looking for the CT125 for few years and looks like I'll get one in few months. Looking forward to cruising around or little motocamping somewhere with you all when I get one.
Congrats Just Jack! Looks like you already got one.
And berkeleyhiker: have you got one yet? I used to live in Berkeley back in 90's, also a hiker (been backpacking and bikepacking for more than 10 years).
Hope to meet up with you all in a near future!
Until then, take care guys!

I highly recommend Parriott Motors up in St. Helena (Napa area), great people and good prices. They spent 20 minutes or so helping me wrestle the bike into my car and get it strapped down

You’ll still end up paying through the nose since license and registration are super high in California but their dealer markup is relatively low on these bikes, I think it was around $350 which I think is reasonable considering the regional costs for property and labor.

If they have any 2024 models in stock they’ll take a deposit to hold it for you (I gave them a $500 depot and picked the bike up about a week later) and if they’re sold out of this year’s model they can put you on a list for next year.

It’s a great little bike, as long as you’re aware of and OK with the fact that the top speed is around 52mph you can’t go wrong with one of these.
