This is my storage box, it's a plano sportsman trunk. I use spray adhesive to attach a section of 3mm yoga mat to the bottom and protect the paint and help prevent slipping around. Easy to remove and lightweight.

Yea it's not to far off. I have lots of these in different sizes for my gear.

Can I ask why you prefer a hard case to a soft case?

I have both hard and soft cases for the bike, with the soft cases like I used last yr on the CDT every thing gets smashed together and shifts around a little. With the hard case it's easier to keep order and cushion delicate items. For every day riding I carry very little besides a tool kit and water.

I added a smaller box for short rides, using bungee cords and glued nonslip mat to bottom. I used rubber orings to help waterproof holes, very arid environment so I'm not to worried about it.
