I'm getting to the point in my life (mid 40s) where it's time to take a big adventure before I get too old. Don't get me wrong we drive all over the country in our class A motorhome and I've seen just about every part of the USA, and I've been to Europe, Philippines, South Korea etc. However after watching c90adventures on YouTube I'm wanting to conquer the TransAmerica trail. Anyone on here completed the trail or parts of it? Stupid idea to attempt it on a trail 125?

The trailer is a great idea however my brother just got done completely decking out his Rubicon. Rooftop tent, complete overland setup. If we find a route where he could take his Jeep and I could take the trail 125 he could carry most of my gear.

Trust me I know I'm blessed! My father taught me to enjoy life. We moved about every 2-4 years growing up, all around the country. Not military but he was in the natural gas industry. Philippines was a mission trip, not pleasure. However working my rear end off in the Philippines was better than a vacation. I'm so ready to get my little red donkey and start modding. The transamerican trail gives me a really good excuse to lose about 50 lb and get in shape. I own a very popular barbecue restaurant and it's hard to stay thin and in shape LOL.

Do your research, take smaller trips to acclimate yourself and build confidence in your skills and the machine, then do it. Proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance.

Absolutely. I own an off-grid cabin deep in the middle of the Chattahoochee Forest 7 miles up a forest service road. I've got three four wheelers and a side by side. I've already put 900+ miles on my pioneer 500 side by side that I bought last year. I'm going to ride the little red donkey all over North Georgia around my cabin to practice. Plus grassy mountain and the cohutta wilderness is the next mountain over. Plenty of places to ride to practice and test equipment.

Yep. You'll know by then what modifications to make, what gear to bring/not bring, how long you can ride per day. I'm always changing what I bring on the Talon. Adding pieces and getting rid of stuff I thought I'd need/want but never use. Rear windshield being one of those things. Love the flip up front, but the rear just collects dust and mud.

Good advice. I sold off my KLX250 many years ago and the Trail 125 is my return to "dirt," however I've decided this time around to dial it down and not do single track, so the Trail 125 was a perfect fit. So far it's proving to be an absolute hoot and is perfect for what I want it for, which is to easily explore any dirt road and moderate road fire or logging road I come across.

With that in mind, my plan:
1. A few camping trips to sort out my gear requirements and how to best pack and haul it. I'm not a stranger to motocamping, but I've only done it before with my Tiger Explorer and I usually bring everything known to man. I need to scale back a bit.

2. After sorting out the gear, I want to do some portions of the Mid-Atlantic Backcountry Discovery route. I actually rode the Bad Eagle portion of it on my KLX back in the day, but I'd love to do something longer. It's practically in my backyard.

3. Depending on what comes out of #2, I'm either going to try the TAT someday soon with the Trail 125, OR, I'm going to bump up to something bigger like a Tenere 700 if it's truly warranted. I bought the Trail 125 with a longer trip in mind, and that drove me to want something that was simple and reliable.

So @MeatTruck, I'd say go for it! PS, consequently I'm the same age as you, I own a travel trailer, and I just smoked ribs on my Traeger tonight. Great minds think alike!
