West Jefferson to Hwy 58,stop in Lansing NC,and try out Pie On The Mountain in route. So many roads that I haven't worn out yet. The other half of the Snake can be dangerous during commute times,as all places,as well as idiots on weekends. and I could only recommend going left at friendship,or right at Wyatt Hollow, keep going straight when you hit a hundred yards of pavement and you will be on Govt road ( gravel all the way into Damascus. Or turn right ,after leaving Wyat Hollow ( mountain trail ) rd .across Mqueen's gap back into Shady Valley. You will cross the Appalachian Trail on top of the mountain. Rough, but 15 mph is fine, you most likely will not encounter anyone for hours either way. DELORME Atlas & Gazeteer for less than 20 bucks delivered next day Amazon. All states available, shows all roads, forest roads, etc. Footpaths even.I was staying out near West Jefferson, NC around this time last year and took part of The Snake to Damascus, VA when I left on my Goose. NC-88 to NC-194 to US-58. Fantastic ride. Would like to do the whole Snake loop route some time in the future.

Too many round trip routes ,straight from leaving the garage to specify. Highly recommend the DELORME Atlas Gazetteer . I had to buy VA. Tenn., and N.C. to do round trip rides of less than 70 miles. I have ridden over a hundred miles many times and never had a car behind me. If one or two did appear,I would pull over and let them by. The roads are so twisty that I could have left them behind, but I never know what is around next bend. Anyone in a hurry on these roads has Anal, Cranium ,Inversion disorder. Thanks for the tips, I'm sure I'll be back that away again soon enough.

Realizing that you are normal is the first step in improvement. Automobile drivers seem entitled to half the road. The problem begins when they choose the middle half, and can't even stay in that !How dare you make fun of my disability.
I can't read my own writing,my signature is never the same, but I AM an EXCELLENT DRIVER !
