RE laying the bike on its side to install the drain plug....that's what I did and have had no problems at all. I installed the new magnetic plug at about 5 miles, have about 300 now...no issues.

My plug came in on Saturday but my case of oil didn't yet. I found a 6 pack of Castrol Actevo 10w-30 semi-syn 4T cycle oil on Amazon for about $40 shipped.

Breaking it down, that's $6.70 a quart. 0.7Q to a change = $4.90. For $5 I'm not screwing around trying to re-use old oil, even though it still looks really clean. I hate wasting good oil, but it's just not worth it.

Awesome! Thats the new 'EASY BUTTON' for putting this plug in early on.

For those of us yet to see our bikes can you confirm which side we should lay our bikes down - with my big BMW there is usually no option!!'

As I recall, I laid the bike over on its right side. It really should not matter, more a matter of what you have on the ground to keep from scratching anything. I used a beach towel since the bike is so light.

I asked Nault's to change to synthetic oil and install the gold plug.
I shall watch them thereby making sure that I do this correctly.
My Honda Trail 125 Service Manual is due for delivery by FedEx today.
Why couldn't they just mail it?

Hi, Nault's just called. They recommend NOT using synthetic during the break in period. Using synthetic would extend the oil change interval. The 2021 Honda TRAIL125a Service manual arrived from Helm. It has seven holes drilled in it.

you can change oil whenever (early) as you wish. i mean, its one bolt and a quart of oil. literally 5 minutes, most of that is waiting for it to drip out. anything over 50 miles the rings are well seated. the rest in there is a roller motor, no break in needed for the crank, cam, etc.

I like full synthetic oil. Would it be OK to use
Castrol 06113 Power RS 5W-40 4-Stroke Motorcycle Oil - 1 Quart, (Pack of 6) $50.00 (almost new - dented box $40..)

I checked with Honda. This oil exceeds the requirements.

Why is the Gold plug three times more expensive than other magnetic plugs? Are they really better?

They use not to be as much as they are now. But with everything else they went up in price. I'd say they are worth it particularly in this bike as the earlier models did not have a designated removable oil filter like the 2023's do. We just had the oil spinner which is a bit of a task to clean. The Gold Plug appears to be worth it's weight in gold by the amount of debris it collects from the oil and helps to keep the filter a bit cleaner. I now have them in all my bikes. I'm no mechanic or super experienced bike dude, just basing my thoughts on it by what came off my plugs and reviewing others findings with their's. There are other brands to choose from as well. Hope this information helps.

I work part time at an auto parts store.
We were talking about this the other day.
They said if you held a vacuum to the filler hole, it applied enough suction that it wouldn't draw oil out, but it would keep the oil from coming out the drain hole
enabling you to change the plug.

I have not tried this yet.
Just lay your bike on its side and remove the plug...
