Hello,

First time poster.

Bought my Trail 125 new to learn how to ride. Love it. Have almost 1000 miles. Only issue lately has been the transmission.

- Sometimes Ill downshift and the lever will stay down. I need to hit the heel shifter back down to make it level.
- Down shifting takes a lot of pressure.

I have done the transmission adjustment with the 14 wrench and flathead but still see the same. Have tried a few different variations but no luck.

Anyone else see this issue?

that usually indicates either a bent shift shaft or an internal issue w the return spring. I've also seen this happen on a bike very, very low on oil... but i doubt that's it... but worth a check. Back to the internal issue: has the clutch cover been off for the oil spinner clean out at the dealership? they may have re-assembled something incorrectly, as what affects that action is actually on THAT side of the motor. I have seen a new sprint GT have the return spring break on an internal shift linkage as well, so it does happen. IF it were my bike Id pull the RH cover and take a look in there. But thats me.

Ah okay. I’ve only changed the oil. Hasn’t been to the dealership. I’ll check the oil but this initially started before I ever changed it.

seems like this is something beyond my ability to repair. I have concern that I’ll damage the bike more if I disassembled it. Is that a pretty invasive process?

There have been a few people who've had similar issues caused by the clutch ball retainer plate becoming damaged. One owner went through two of them in ~24k miles.

Since you already tried the clutch adjustment, unless that process is not being done correctly the culprit is likely something out of place or damaged. If you're not sure of your ability, with only 1k miles on the bike if it's still under warranty I'd reach out to your dealer and see about having them look at it.
