Vibrations?

Hi Everyone

I was hoping to get the opinions of some Trail owners that have had some seat time on the bike. We just picked up a Trail 125 and in the first 100 miles something doesn’t seem right. There is a consistent high frequency vibration that can be felt in the handlebars, pegs, seat, and frame of the bike at pretty much any rpm above idle. The dealer took a look and said that the rear wheel was out of true and submitted a warranty claim to get a new one. I did some testing of my own and the vibration is rpm dependent, nothing to do with the wheel (example: riding in 4th at 35mph and holding up on the shifter to disengage the transmission and coast, all vibrations go away and it’s smooth as can be). With these being so hard to come by I can’t get my hands on another one to compare.

Do these Trails tend to vibrate? I’ve had a lot of larger cc single cylinder Hondas that were very smooth so I was pretty surprised with this one, expecting it to be smooth as a Rukus. We are trying to understand if we should push the dealer to look into it deeper. It’s bad enough that your hands and feet go numb pretty quickly and isn’t that much fun to use at the moment.

Thank you in advance for any responses.

I agree with checking the engine mount bolts. You have the opposite vibration issue of what my bike came with. When I picked up my bike new it vibrated so bad the mirrors were a blur when idling, but it went away when the front brake was engaged or when moving, turned out the top nut on the triple tree just needed to be tightened a bit. The bike still vibrates a bit, but it's in line with my expectations based on other 125cc thumpers.

Thank you everyone for the replies. Same issue, the vibration causes the mirrors to blurry when riding mine. I’ll take off the body panels to get to the engine mounts and check them for rightness. Hopefully that’s the fix

Hmm. I have some vibration going at around 35 mph, figured it was just a kind of normal thing. Might have to look into mine now. Thanks for asking the question!

My 2021 had more vibration than I'd hoped for upon purchase. Even made my hands hurt after a not so long ride. Things I did to tame it were slid Grip Puppies over the stock grips, installed Bark Busters with the bar end weights they come with and also added the external bar end weights (these are the 2 point connection type), Kitaco cross bar brace, got my wheels balanced, and lastly I had my factory seat recrafted by a local upholstery shop and had extra padding added. All this definately helped tame the felt vibration in my handlebars and butt. Might want to make sure your chain is not overtightened from the factory too. Mine was a bit tight, which can add to it. Hope this info helps.

Mine is smooth but still resists shifting from first to second occasionally especially when cold.

I have vibrations in the footpegs now that I am using the Honda rally pegs but they don't have rubber isolators. I am usually wearing boots with honey vibram soles and that absorbs most of the vibes.

The 125 isn't known for being a really smooth engine. Mine vibrates the handlebars when stopped in-gear as well unless I hold the front brake. A Honda Grom I used to own (and rode for 3,000 miles) used to do the same thing. Remember that a Ruckus has a CVT type transmission which is very different from the type of transmission which our Trail's use.

All that said, excessive vibrations would concern me as well. Depending on where you're at you may be able to find a member of this forum who will let you take a spin on their trail to ride and compare with.
