Pay the extra for expedited shipping, it will be here by Friday. Or you could pay a custom fab guy about the same…

I have the "MotoSkill Engine Guard Crash Bar Honda CT125 Trail 125" from BeezDeals and decided against them, I'm instead waiting for the Zeta brand one that is compatible with my engine skid plate to arrive. Feel free to message me if you're interested in purchasing the MotoSkill crash bar, would ship from Colorado.

Whatever you do don't buy this one on ebay. Was a good deal, but clearly you get what you pay for. I am considering just panting the stock one and adding one off the bolt on options. Also I will say installation was way more of a pain than I thought. That weird center mount thing is a real can of worms.

a 'fab guy' that's any good would charge way more than the cost of a beez or ebay bar + shipping, but would (hopefully) be made of better materials as well. so, sort of depends how you want to go. I mean, i wouldn't even fire up my welder for 98 bucks. https://www.ebay.com/itm/383967568205?hash=item596640214d:g:oTkAAOSw2QlgMLB9
I have the V2 of that crash bar, with the mesh in the outer loops. It serves my purpose fine – mounting lights and providing mesh to attach small bags to. Shipping was an arm and a leg from overseas but only took a a week or so to show up. It's light, much like the OEM bars it mounts to, so I wouldn't expect it to hold up in a crash, but the build quality is good even if the metal is light so I'd expect them to provide some protection in lower speed tip-overs.

Did you ever get the Zeta crash bars? If so where did you get them from and how do they look?

It comes with engine guard stays / pipes, but they do not stick out from the side of the bike like "crash bars" typically do, crash bars are usually meant to touch the ground first in the event of a tip over to protect other parts of the bike from damage. They can also be great for mounting things to because they stick out.

Oh gotcha. Yes I need those for my new CB500X as I've almost dropped it a couple of times (but I didn't!)

I don't think I see the need on the CT125 for myself personally. I tell people half seriously that it is like having a big bicycle with a nice engine. That's just how maneuverable it feels. I have a hard time seeing myself dropping it. Of course I just jinxed myself.

Are there any crash bars that would keep some of the bits from getting broken if it falls over?
I haven't laid the Trail on it's side to see what would break but if a simple tip-over is gonna break off the gear shift or break some plastic it might not be a bad investment.
Not expecting to need brush guard in my riding but it might happen! Thinking about headlight protection also.
None of them are exactly cheap but neither are OEM Replacement parts.
If they don't protect any parts I'll just keep my eye out for a spare shifter or brake lever and accept the patina on the plastic if it goes down.

It's come up before, but Ang from Some Guy Rides had crash guards on his CT125, and Johnny Pow did not, and they both messed up their brake levers in the exact same way. Link @1h18m

The shift lever and brake levers are steel, not aluminum, so they bend back ok. Regarding headlight protection, I do actually think that's a potentially good investment, but I'm not sure how well it will actually work. Again, we can turn to Ang from Some Guy Rides for providing some practical hands on demonstration of what went wrong when the bike got sleepy in the first few minutes of his prep ride. Link @ ~1m30s

It's a pity Ang wasn't just sponsored by Honda at this point for product testing for us.

Beyond that, there's not a lot actually sticking out on the bike to break. You're looking at the forks getting messed up by digging the bar end into something, snapping the right hand brake lever, and... other stuff that crash guards won't prevent from being issues.

FWIW, that's not to say I think it's a bad idea. There's another user who has some really sweet looking leg shields which would be great for winter, and they mount to the leg guards IIRC. Additionally, one other great reason is a place to mount storage and accessories, acknowledging that you will be sacrificing some speed if you do. But sometimes the ability to go farther, with more, is better than the need to go there faster.
